Responsibilities
N.A.Carries out basic hygiene measures including but not limited to the following : grooming, shaving, applying make-up, oral hygiene / dental care, cuts / cleans nails, fingers and toes, foot care, skin care, bathing / showering and cleaning incontinent residents.
Turns and positions residents to prevent pressure areasAssists with standing, lifting, transferring and ambulating residentsGives and removes bed pans, urinals and performs Foley careMeasures temperature, radial pulse, respiration and blood pressureDistributes nourishments, feeds residents and records % of dietary intAssists with admission, transfer and discharges of residentsCollects specimens urine, feces and sputumMeasures and records fluid intake and outputMaintains appropriate supplies of gloves and other personal protective equipmentAssists in dressing, buttoning, typing and snapsAssists in organizing residents drawers, closets and roomsCleans residents jewelry as needed or upon requestVerifies that all dentures, glasses and personal items are marked with proper resident’s nameCleans wheelchairs and Geri-chairs on a regular basis and as neededPasses ice water and assists residents with hydrationsAnswers call lightsAssists the nurse or physician with minor treatments and procedures as assignedProvides post-mortem careProvides for the safety and security needs of the resident by : Making frequent checks on residents and responding to the resident’s call for assistance in a timely and appropriate mannerGiving appropriate explanationsMaintaining communication devices (nurse call light, TV and telephone and other such equipment)Utilizes techniques of infection control such as : Frequent hand washingStandard precautions and disease specific precautionary techniquesProvides for the psychosocial needs of residentsListens to and hears resident and family anxieties and relays this information to the nurse
