Pet ER is Hiring a Veterinary Technician Near Hunt Valley, MD

Pet ER believes in a team-oriented approach to patient care. Our technicians have direct case oversight and management with our Emergency Clinicians. Senior technicians mentor and guide newer technicians and build them to a level of expertise. Our technicians work autonomously and think critically. Pet ER has recently undergone substantial growth and is looking for experienced and highly motivated veterinary technicians to join our fast-paced, state-of-the-art, 24-hour emergency and critical care team. We pride ourselves in an open, welcoming work environment where employees can feel safe to learn from their co-workers and seek guidance from a variety of clinicians and specialists. Management strives to maintain close working relationships with all employees to take in to consideration their concerns or suggestions for continued innovation and expansion of our services and patient care. Our leadership team's focus is to assist our employees in setting goals and identify internal growth possibilities, reviewed on a quarterly and annual basis.

Our veterinary technicians cover multiple shifts in our busy ICU including triage, in-hospital care, out-patient care and overnight specialty patient care. Applicants who have achieved certification (RVT, CVT, LVT) are preferred, but technicians with experience in patient care, anesthesia/surgery monitoring, in-house laboratory operation, phlebotomy/ IV catheter placement, and radiology will be considered. 

General job responsibilities: Maintain a positive work environment, work well under pressure, multitasking, respect toward clients and team members, employ stellar customer service, use of proper medical terminology, maintain a clean and safe work environment, maintain inventory and alert inventory manager as needed.

Technical responsibilities: restraint of animals, effectively obtain a patient history from owners, accurately measure and record patient vital parameters, understand and maintain asepsis and sterility in necessary situations, feed and walk animals, maintain a stocked work environment, phlebotomy, intravenous catheter placement, ability to run in-house laboratory tests, ability to prepare outside laboratory samples, anesthesia and sedation monitoring, arterial blood draws, arterial catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, nasogastric tube placement, central line placement, knowledge and understanding of medical math, ability to convert and gather medications, administering medications (IV, IM, SQ, PO), correctly fill medications, participate in patient rounds.

Schedule: We are seeking day, swing, and overnight positions. Our shifts are scheduled as three 12-hour or four 10-hour shifts. Part-time employment on a case-by-case basis.

Required Education: High school or equivalent

Required experience: Veterinary technician: 2-4 years

Preferred license or certification: RVT, CVT, LVT
