This is a seasonal position within the duration of summer camp. This short-term position may begin as early as May 20th and terminates at the end of camp on August 2nd. Discovery Camp consists of weekly, themed sessions for students from 5-12 years of age. Educators are expected to be present at the Museum between 8:15 - 4:00 during camp and attend in-person information sessions prior to the start of camp.
Facilitate content and activities for Discovery Camp based on provided theme
Teach informal science education aligned to theme and engages students
Serve as lead instructor of classes up to 23 children
Supervise campers both inside the classroom and within the Museum
Ability to use a personal vehicle for off-site camp programs
Request materials/resources needed for content in a timely manner
Uphold and execute all Discovery Camp procedures and policies
Assist with the arrival and pickup of campers and assisting them to their correct classroom or vehicle
Communicate and provide clear directions and expectations assistant educators and volunteers aiding the class
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor degree in Arts, Science or Education OR enrolled in an accredited University working toward a degree in teaching or a science discipline
Two or more years of experience in instruction and curriculum development in a formal or informal environment
Ability to work comfortably with children ages 5 - 12, including handling disciplinary issues, resolving conflicts, and being creative and flexible
Highly motivated with a positive attitude that can effectively lead groups
Understanding of computers and various software programs (Excel, Outlook, Word etc.)
Current CPR/First Aid certification or be able to attend training prior to the start of camps
Must have a driver’s license and car insurance that meets the state minimum standards for coverage
Consistent form of communication that is checked regularly with responses provided in a timely manner
Communicate at a highly professional level in both oral and written form
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals and groups
Must be optimally protected from COVID-19 by being vaccinated and up to date with a booster dose
