Job Description
Position Summary:
Key responsibilities include supervision of monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes, financial statement analysis, reconciliations and reporting and ensuring proper accounting of all cash, corporate assets, earned income, fixed assets, intercompany and marketing funds. Works closely with managers throughout Operating Company and corporate financial management. Oversees cashier/cash application, bank reconciliations and vendor billing duties. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company. The Controller will report to the Vice President of Finance and is based out of our distribution warehouse in Rock Island, IL. This is not a remote position.
Key Responsibilities:

• Supervises associates to include, but not limited to: staffing, training, coaching, performance management and problem resolution. Ensures duties are performed accurately and on time.
• Performs monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process.
• Responsible for intercompany transactions and processes.
• Performs and reviews financial analysis and account reconciliations.
• Analyzes financial income statements, making recommendations and reporting variances.
• Develops procedures to properly record all accounting transactions.
• Identifies, defines, and implements changes in financial procedures.
• Directs activities of teams responsible for general ledger accounting, vendor billing, cash reconciliation, fixed assets and related capital expenditure accounting.
• Provides strategic recommendations for process improvements and efficient use of resources.
• Effectively leads team through change.
• Maintains integrity of general ledger. Ensures transactions are performed within a sound internal control environment.
• Prepares various reports and completes special projects as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance or related area of study.

• 5 years' general ledger and financial accounting experience, including supervisory experience in a high-volume transaction environment.

• Thorough understanding and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills required.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and positively lead teams through change.

• Working knowledge and analytical skills to make independent judgments in relation to complex accounting processes and the business.

• Robust documentation and reporting capabilities

• Strong computer and analytical skills - High proficiency in Excel

• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects/tasks in a high-volume, changing environment.

• Ability to maintain efficient and effective financial systems and procedures.

• Self-motivated with ability to work under and meet necessary deadlines individually as well as in a team environment.

• Ability to work flexible hours as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10 years accounting experience (preferably in foodservice distribution industry)

• SAP experience.

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Master's in Business Administration (MBA).
