Project Specialist II - Cultural Resources - Project Archaeologist - Gulf Coast - (Remote)

Job Description:
Percheron is seeking a talented Project Specialist II - Cultural Resources - Project Archaeologist to support our Environmental Department in the Gulf Coast (Texas). Percheron Environmental specializing in natural and cultural resource serving the public and private sectors in conducting resource surveys to support obtaining permits and clearances from environmental resource and government agencies. We support overall environmental compliance during construction and following in-‐service. Percheron provides flexibility to work remotely.

  • Participate in all aspects of archaeological projects, fieldwork, and deliverables.
  • Processing of post - field data, including completing archaeological site forms and historic structure forms; development of map figures, data tables, and illustrations for technical reports.
  • Analyze cultural materials and supervise subcontractors and specialized analyses of cultural materials, as necessary.
  • Ensure that archaeological collections are processed, cataloged, analyzed, and curated according to the specifications of the research design and the guidelines of the curation facility where collections will ultimately be housed.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in evaluating the significance of archaeological sites and historic structures, objects, and districts in terms of their eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and for listing on applicable state registers.
  • Participate in technical reports, research designs, cultural resources management plans, and other technical documents.
  • Foster and maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency staff, tribes, private sector clients, and other industry professionals.

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in cultural resources management fieldwork and report completion.
  • Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology/Registration as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA).
  • Previous experience supervising archaeological crews in Texas.
  • Prior experience in cultural resources management projects conducted for regulatory compliance purposes.
  • Familiarity with laboratory methods, procedures, and protocols for processing collections of archaeological materials (e.g., artifacts, bulk collections) and project records (e.g., field paperwork, photographs, artifact catalogs) for permanent curation at approved curation facilities and ability to oversee laboratory staff to complete curation projects.
  • Experience in Texas and surrounding states related to cultural resources, inventory, significance testing, and data recovery.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, functioning as an effective, self-‐motivated, and highly capable individual.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices and digital data collection.
  • Team-‐orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current valid Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to drive personal auto to and from client and/or landowner locations is required. Ability to travel as directed by Region/General Manager or client request.
  • Must be able to travel to field locations and conduct fieldwork in varied terrain for extended periods of time in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to collaborate fully as a team player.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details, and present good planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted).
  • Ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations and Company policies and procedures.
