Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an OpenShift Administrator to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will become part of Department of State (DOS) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) Program, for the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA). CAEIO provides IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting CA services globally.

Responsibilities

  • Cluster Management: OpenShift administrators are responsible for creating, configuring, and maintaining OpenShift clusters. This includes setting up the underlying infrastructure, adding or removing nodes, and ensuring the cluster is highly available.
  • User Access and Authentication: Admins manage user access to the OpenShift cluster. This involves setting up authentication methods (like LDAP, OAuth, or HTPasswd), defining roles and permissions using Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and creating and managing user accounts.
  • Resource Allocation: They oversee resource allocation to applications running on the cluster. This includes defining resource quotas and limits to prevent resource hogging by individual applications.
  • Security: Security is a critical aspect of OpenShift administration. Admins need to regularly update and patch the cluster, manage security policies, and ensure that container images used in the cluster are free from vulnerabilities.
  • Networking: Admins configure and manage networking within the cluster. This involves setting up service definitions, configuring networking policies, and ensuring that applications can communicate with each other both within and outside the cluster.
  • Storage: Admins configure and manage storage resources for applications running on OpenShift. This includes setting up persistent storage, storage classes, and managing the lifecycle of storage volumes.
  • Scaling and Performance Optimization: Admins need to scale the cluster as the demand for resources grows. They also optimize the cluster's performance by fine-tuning configurations and resolving performance bottlenecks.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: When issues arise, administrators are responsible for diagnosing and resolving them. This may involve interacting with support teams or vendors if necessary.
  • Cluster Upgrades: Keeping the cluster up to date by performing version upgrades is a key responsibility. This involves careful planning and testing to ensure a smooth transition.
