DUTIES:Under the general guidance of the FOCUS Program Specialist, the FOCUS Program Aide is responsible for:

• Assist the FOCUS Program Specialist with the implementation and supervision of planned activities each day.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate meaningful recreation activities for adults with various abilities.
• Modify and adapt programs and equipment to meet the needs of all participants. Assist verbally or physically to provide inclusion for all participants in all activities.
• Possess the physical ability to safely perform lifts and transfers for adults with disabilities. As well as, any physical activity to ensure participants are engaging in leisure, recreation, sport and social activities during the program.
• Perform any personal care to participants who may need assistance with diet, mobility, and bathrooming and complete any documentation needed for personal care.
• Enforce safety guidelines and procedures before, during and after activities and complete any documentation needed for incidents.
• Attend staff meetings and seasonal trainings to for advance park district and HISRA training.
• Establish excellent rapport with participants, parents/guardians, and co-workers. Communicate effectively with participants, parents, management, co-workers and the public.

Education:High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:Must be at least 18 years old; 21 years or older must have a valid driver’s license to drive vehicles

Knowledge and Ability:

• Interest/experience working with individuals with disabilities
• Desire to learn and work in a small group setting.
• Enthusiasm, patience and show initiative through past work and or volunteer experience.
• Flexibility with change of plans that could occur during the program.
