Job Description Summary

The Accounting Specialist position is responsible for various financial tasks, including accounts payable/receivable management, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The Accounting Specialist will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records. This position is responsible for processing purchase orders, reviewing invoices, and managing payment workflows, this position ensures accuracy, compliance, and timely payments. The Accounting Specialist also engages in vendor communication, reconciliation activities, and collaborates with various departments to resolve discrepancies. This position is also responsible for maintaining accurate accounts receivable information, conducting billing activities, tracking payments, and ensuring diligent follow-up on discrepancies. Additionally, the Accounting Specialist handles cash, check, and credit card deposits. To record, maintain and issue official Peoria City/County records for birth and death certificates according to the rules and regulations under the Vital Records Act of the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Associates degree, or equivalent experience, in finance, accounting, or business field. Two to three years experience in finance, accounting, or business area with knowledge of accounting and/or financial systems. Knowledge and ability to utilize computers and related technology efficiently, including but not limited to: Windows based operating systems; Microsoft Office software such as Word, Outlook, and Excel; Presentation software such as PowerPoint and Canva. Familiarity with collaboration software such as SharePoint preferred. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. Must have understanding of basic principles of finance, accounting, and bookkeeping. Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and math skills and be able to demonstrate accuracy in processing detailed information. Must have excellent organizational skills.
