PeopleTec is Hiring a Senior Hardware Reverse Engineer Near Quantico, VA

Responsibilities

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Senior Hardware Reverse Engineer to support our Quantico, VA location.

In this role this person will conduct reverse engineering and vulnerability analysis of complex and diverse hardware systems in support of national security for a U.S. Government customer at Quantico, VA.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 10 years of embedded systems development experience utilizing microcontrollers, FPGAs, ASICs, and common peripheral components for data storage and communication
  • Scripting language experience. (Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Experience with virtualization and emulation tools. (VMware, KVM, QEMU, etc.)
  • Experience with common IP network principles. (IP address, subnetting, routing, NAT, VLANs, etc.)
  • Experience researching and developing vulnerabilities and CVEs into proof-of-concept exploits.
  • Experience dumping data, such as firmware or memory contents.
  • Experience with designing, developing, and/or testing (Verilog, VHDL, FPGA, PCB, ASIC).
  • Experience with common hardware communication protocols. (SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, Modbus, CAN bus)
  • Experience with electronics test equipment. (Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAGs, traffic generators, etc.)
  • Experience with RF test equipment. (SDRs, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
  • Experience with advanced techniques. (power, laser, or electromagnetic glitching)
  • Travel: 25 %
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • An active DoD Top Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Top Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or an approved equivalent from an ABET accredited program

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Office position with minimal physical requirements

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with the processing of analog signals in an embedded environment

  • Hands-on experience with PCB or embedded system design (architecture, schematic capture, board layout, interacting with suppliers & contract manufacturers, etc.).

  • Experience and demonstrated low-level knowledge of non-volatile memory technologies "low-level" system component interfaces, including, but not limited to NAND flash, NOR flash, I2C (incl. SMBus, PMBus), LPC, eSPI, etc.).

  • Experience with hardware level diagnostics and debugging, including early stage boot processes, platform firmware debugging, CPU complex/memory complex debugging and introspection.

  • Experience with platform level security technologies, including but not limited to secure boot (e.g., UEFI Secure Boot, Intel Boot Guard, measured boot, verified boot, etc.); platform firmware security architectures, roots of trust, and “T minus 1” designs (Cerberus, Nitro, Titan, OpenTitan, Intel PFR, etc.); Trusted Execution Environments (SGX, TrustZone, SEV, etc.); TPM, remote attestation (TXT, SKINIT); memory encryption (Total Memory Encryption [TME], Secure Memory Encryption [SME]).
  • Experience in security assessment of firmware, ideally paired with experience of developing and debugging firmware.
  • FPGA implementation experience. Use of FPGAs in a hardware design context, and/or RTL/gateware implementation.
