People With Developmental Disabilities, Office for is Hiring a Registered Nurse 2 Community (NY HELPS) Near Brooklyn, NY

Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. One year of this experience must have been providing direct services to individuals diagnosed with mental illness, developmental disabilities, addiction, or substance use disorders in a community setting.
Substitution: A bachelor’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master’s degree in nursing may substitute for two years of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Duties Description
Primary duties and responsibilities are but not limited to:
  • Monitor individuals’ care
  • Consult with community hospitals and clinics regarding individuals’ needs
  • Conduct monthly nursing meetings to discuss consumer concerns, problems, etc.
  • Maintain communication with individuals’ family members or correspondents
  • Advise nurses/staff on medical and nursing problems as needed
  • Assist physicians and staff
  • On-call for individuals’ medical and nursing needs
  • Coordinate annual in-service of staff on individuals’ medical and nursing needs
  • Schedule and coordinate nursing staff to conduct medication recertification classes
  • Schedule follow-up clinics for individuals
  • Participate in various committees such as Human Rights, Placement and Incident Review, as needed
  • Serve as liaison to hospitals, nursing homes, psychiatric centers and rehabilitation centers
  • Provide input on updating nursing policies and procedures, as needed
  • Periodic travel to Manhattan sites required
  • Provide Training to Direct Care staff and nursing team
