MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Provisional appointment to Recreation Assistant may be considered. To be eligible for provisional appointment, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Direct Support Assistant, Direct Support Assistant (IRM), Direct Support Assistant (Manual Communications) [formerly known as Developmental Aide, Developmental Aide (IRM), Developmental Aide (Manual Communications)], Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide 1, Licensed Practical Nurse, Mental Health Therapy Aide, Secure Care Treatment Aide, Teaching Assistant, Training Aide, or in a language parenthetic in any of the above titles.
1. The Recreation Worker, under the supervision of professional treatment staff; plans, organizes, and conducts recreational and rehabilitation activities for Individuals who attend the Day Program.
2. Promotes and coordinates recreational activities in the various classrooms at the Day Program and the Day Program in general.
3. Provides a variety of therapeutic, rehabilitative recreation services to individuals at the Day Program with the purpose of developing or maintaining physical, mental and social well-being of individuals, thereby, assisting Individuals to feel good and live richer lives.
4. Monitors inclusion activities as integral part of the Day Program setting and aids the agency in maintaining standard that is essential for continued certification with the Division of Quality Management Bureau of Program Certification.
5. Incumbent plans, develops, and implements recreation programs including physical and social activities in the Day Program.
6. Supervises how direct care workers who are assigned to the Individuals, implement community inclusion activities.
7. incumbent will produce monthly recreation reports for all individuals who attend the Day Program and make data entries in EHR.
8. Plans and implements recreation activities at the Day Program which promotes growth, maintenance, and social well-being of the Individuals who attend the Day Program.
9. Conducts a wide range of recreational and rehabilitation program and activities such as: Sports, Games, Excursion, and Creative Arts for Individuals. Teaches or coaches individuals on sports, games, dancing, drama, exercise, and other group activities, and encourages participation.
10. Facilitates community programs operated by Office of people with Developmental Disabilities.
11. Collaborates with treatment team members, community organizations, families, volunteers, and direct care staff to plan recreational and rehabilitation activities consistent with individuals’ interests and therapeutic requirements; and facilitates therapeutic recreational programs as prescribed by the treatment team.
12. Determines group interests, evaluates available and required resources, and
adapts them to meet individuals’ needs.
13. Instructs individuals on creative arts and crafts; and assists them with handling equipment and supplies.
14. Observes and records individuals’ responses to and participation in activities.
15. Organizes and maintains rooms, equipment, decorations, supplies, entertainment, and other requirements to conduct activities.
