People With Developmental Disabilities, Office for is Hiring a Data Analyst 2 Near Schenectady, NY

Non-competitive: one year of permanent service as a Data Analyst 1 OR bachelor’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, and three years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
  • Substitution: A master’s degree in the above fields may substitute for one year of the specialized experience. A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two years of the specialized experience.
Duties Description
The Data Analyst 2 will be responsible for preparing data analysis consistent with the Bureau data management practices and procedures, data governance, data security, master data management, business intelligence, and data quality.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Review, understand and incorporate the Bureau data management practice and strategy and the Data Management Body of Knowledge.
  • Participate in discussions with cross bureau discussions related to data and reporting needs.
  • Devise methods to identify data trends and patterns.
  • Assess data structures to determine how to best provide data aligned with performance indicators for the Division beginning to end operations.
  • Research data sources and data tools and make recommendations for new sources and tool.
  • Use a variety of approaches (tabulations, visualizations, supervised and unsupervised learning, predictive and retrospective analysis, statistics, machine learning, etc.) to perform data analysis.
  • Ensure data compilation and analysis are clearly documented and adhere to standards and best practices.
  • Perform peer reviews to ensure data analysis is conducted in accordance with the Bureau practices and standards.
  • Supervise staff members; train and develop them to ensure they acquire the necessary skills to be successful; review work and provide coaching as needed.
