Description
This position will work under the direction of the Aquatics Program Director to develop, oversee and instruct safe, enriching and effective youth and family swim programs that meet the needs of the participants and the community. The Swim Lesson Coordinator manages/oversees swim instructors and the swim lesson program, private/semi-private to ensure all lessons are executed enthusiastically, safely, securely within the guidelines of Penobscot Bay YMCA/YSL. The Swim Lesson Coordinator also teaches swim lessons, private and semi-private lessons as needed. Additionally, the Swim Lesson Coordinator will regularly provide feedback to swim instructors, coordinate and run swim instructor in-services prior to each swim lesson session and meet individually with each swim instructor to ensure the best possible program is provided.
This position is evenings and Saturdays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provides safe, effective and creative instruction for individuals at all levels.
2. Recruit and retain swim lesson participants through providing first class programs
3. Assists Aquatic Director in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching and supervising all swim instructors
4. Oversees swim lessons and swim instructors
5. Creates, implements and manages swim instructors’ schedules
6. Ensure all classes begin and end on time
7. Ensure equipment used in lessons is put away
8. Meets and assists instructors with any difficult situations and lessons.
9. Personally address client suggestions and complaints as they arise in a way that leaves the client feeling “heard” and appreciated, while still protecting the interest of the Penobscot Bay YMCA
10. Monitors and evaluates the quality of swim lessons through surveys, phone calls and other means of communication
11. Creates and maintains spreadsheet of certification of all swim instructors
12. Report incidents, inquiries and complaints to Aquatics Director
13. Participate in regular in-service trainings
14. Lifeguarding dependent on current needs in department
15. Provides effective individual supervision and encouragement during program time and ensures other swim lesson staff are providing the same.
16. Finds approved coverage for classes when unable to instruct, assists other instructors with finding coverage.
17. Responsible with providing fill in assistance for staff as needed.
18. Runs all swim lesson instructor in-services
19. Perform all other duties necessary for the good of the organization.
Requirements
· 1 years of experience working with youth in a childcare, coaching or other setting.
· 2-3 years experience or expertise in specific program field recommended.
· CPR and First Aid Certification (within 1 month of hire).
· Redwoods Child Safety training (within 1 month of hire).
· Achieve Y swim lesson instructor certification within first 6 months.
· Exercise good judgment around areas of responsibility.
· Demonstrate a high tolerance for interruptions and varied routine.
· Proven desire to “take charge” of areas of responsibilities.
· Available to run and oversee all swim lesson program times including Saturdays
· Ability to keep confidences related to office and personnel matters.
· Ability to work successfully with many types of people.
· Possess the ability to handle multiple tasks and demands
· Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups
· Supervisory experience of 1 years recommended.
