    POSITION DESCRIPTION
    JOB TITLE: Food Service General Worker
    CLASSIFICATION: Local 155 - Café
    REPORTS TO: Food Service Director and/or designee
    HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT: Monday thru Friday
    6.5 Hours Full Time or 4 Hours Part Time Per Day
    10 Month Position – Minimum 180 Days Per Year
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned.
    The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
    • Understands basic regulations and specifications of the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Fresh Fruit & Vegetable, and CACFP Programs
    • Performs routine tasks in food preparation as directed by recipes, food production records, portion guides, and Food Service Leadership personnel for meal programs, a la carte items and special events. This may include sandwich assembling, meat slicing, heating prepared food items, chopping vegetables, preparing salads and fruit dishes; baking desserts or breads, checking food temperatures, preparing food portions, or packing meals.
    • Serves food to students and staff according to meal counting and claiming procedures
    • Presents food attractively using appropriate serving containers and utensils. Is conscientious of food quality and appearance
    • Performs cashier duties if needed
    • Receives, stocks, and rotates incoming and outgoing food items and supplies. Assists with inventory recording and daily production records
    • Ensures food safety and cleanliness procedures. Follows HACCP and Sanitation Guidelines. Responsible for knowing and following safety rules pertaining to accommodating students with allergies and special diets, County Health Regulations, and standards set by RSD
    • Assists in the clean-up and sanitation of Food Service Preparation areas, serving areas, and food service equipment. May sweep and/or mop floor of food service area. May remove trash from cafeteria and/or Food Service Preparation areas
    • Participates in Professional Development as outlined by the Food Service Director or designee
    • Exhibits courtesy and customer service to all students, staff, and visitors. Acts professional and projects a positive image of the RSD and the RSD Food Service Department at all times

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • Previous experience in food service preferred
    SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE or CERTIFICATION:
    • ServSafe Certification Preferred
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, recipes, production forms, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to complete production records, time sheets, and other departmental forms
    • Ability to communicate effectively with management, students, and all district staff members.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to sort, count, and verify numbers
    COMPUTER SKILLS:
    • Ability to communicate using district email
    • Ability to learn PrimeroEdge system for cashiering, clocking-in to shift, and production records
    • Ability to learn software upgrades or new programs as introduced
    REASONING ABILITY:
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board Policies.
    • Possess good organization and communication skills.
    • Ability to learn and perform cashier duties.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously standing or walking and talking or hearing, the employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools or controls and climbs on to ladders. The employee is occasionally required to bend and or twist at the trunk more than the average person. The employee is continuously repeating the same hand arm or finger motion many times. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as chlorine and other pool supplies. The employee will sometimes push/pull items. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    The noise level in the work environment is loud at a standard acceptable level for this environment. The atmosphere is humid and may contain residue of sanitizing compounds that may at times be irritating to those with respiratory or related conditions. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently walk on slippery surfaces and occasionally get soaking wet. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, pool sanitizers and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee is continuously responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students and student workers.

    As per terms and conditions set forth in the contract between Reading School District Local #155, Pennsylvania Joint Board United and the Reading School District. Non-exempt employee.
