SUMMARY

Perform a wide variety of duties to receive, inspect and inventory raw materials, setup, adjust and operate production cutting equipment and to stage work-in- process and finished inventories to support forging operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Operator must display proficiency to work from written and verbal instructions, work orders, pick lists, shipping/receiving documents and prescribed company procedures to verify and properly inventory all incoming/outgoing materials by material grade; heat code, color code, size, shape, count, weight, measurements, etc..
  • Operator must maintain inventories in the proper locations and arrangements to facilitate easy access and to preclude heat code mixtures.
  • Operator must demonstrate proficiency in safely setting up and operating cutting/shearing equipment to process various grades/sizes/shapes of material into accurately counted and precise weight forging billets.
  • Operator is responsible for selecting the proper stock, changing cutting bands/blades, setting stops, adjusting cutting parameters, clearances and clamping fixtures for various grades/sizes/shapes of material.
  • Operator is responsible for the lubrication and maintenance of cutting and hydraulic fluid levels.
    Operator is responsible for the legibility, proper marking, inspection, counts, containerizing/palletizing of the billets produced and for the safe guarding, operation and efficient use of his/her equipment.
  • Operator is responsible for the counts and segregation of finished forged products as to their disposition for grinding, cleaning, heat treatment, testing, or shipment and for the preparation of shipping documentation.
  • Operator is responsible for maintaining an orderly and adequate inventory of cutting oils, hydraulic/transmission fluids, lubricants and empty scrap containers and for the notification of any shortages to the appropriate personnel.
  • Operator must report any unusual or unsafe operating condition or deviation in product quality immediately to his/her supervisor. Operator will perform preventative maintenance and adjustments to his/her equipment as authorized and will assist in the training and development of lesser skilled workers.
  • Position requires a personal 25 foot measuring tape, consciousness to detail and the use of measuring instruments, fixed gages, weight scales, marking devices, hand and power tools, the safe use of material handling, set up and lifting devices such as forklift trucks, electric hoists, chains, roll stands, etc.
  • Responsible to prepare and submit/record production records, accurate piece counts, reports and forms required by company procedures.
  • Observe all company policies and regulations including safety, housekeeping and quality of work with support of ISO procedures and standards.
  • Utilize individually and/or further the use of total quality concepts, tools and techniques to support continuous quality improvement in all processes in which the position participates with a positive "Can Do" attitude.
  • Support, encourage and maintain a positive team working atmosphere throughout the company.
  • Perform other duties as requested or necessary to meet business conditions and changes.

    QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE -

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or over three months up to and including 12 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
