PennReach, Inc is Hiring an In Community Counselor Near Fords, NJ

To provide direct supportive interventions for individuals with persistent mental health diagnoses, developmental disabilities and/or addiction related issues living in community supportive housing. Support staff will assist in teaching steps needed to reach consumers’ highest levels of independence in the community.

Qualifications:

· A high school diploma or the equivalent, plus three years' experience in a community-based behavioral health healthcare setting; Certification as a psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner maybe substituted for one year of experience

· Bachelor's level community support staff who shall have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the helping professions, such as social work, human services, counseling, psychiatric rehabilitation, psychology, or criminal justice. Staff with a bachelor's level degree in a field other than a helping profession shall have a minimum of two years of professional experience in a community behavioral healthcare setting. Certification as a psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner may be substituted for one year of experience

· A valid driver's license in the State of NJ with good driving record.

· Shall be at least 18 years of age or older

· Employee must cooperate with the licensee and Department staff in any inspection or investigation.

Required Skill Level:

· The ability to exercise good judgment and use common sense.

· The ability to remain calm in crisis situations.

· The ability to interact with a wide range of people.

· The ability to work collaboratively with others in a team setting.

· Computer knowledge

Responsibilities Include:

· Assist and teach individuals, in daily living skills.

· Attends conferences, seminars, and training relevant to the position.

· Communicates observations and information about the consumer to supervisors and/or team.

· Accompanies individuals to and from appointments and activities.

· Builds a support network between the individuals and community members and natural supports.

· Accurately completes all in-house documentation.

· Must successfully complete and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of required training

· Supervising, organizing, and supporting recreational and/or socialization activities.

· Provide transportation in company vehicle for consumer resident as needed.

· Conduct crisis intervention services

· Must complete 8 session CSS Training Series within 1 year of hire.

Initiative Required:

· Fulfillment of the job responsibilities takes place in the consumer’s residence and in the community.

· In community counselor must be able to support consumers with mental illness in public environments, exercise patience, work with a flexible schedule and respond to crisis situations.

· The position also requires the full use of good judgment and common sense during daily affairs, whether at or away from the residence. Professional communication and appropriate language, whether written or oral, is essential in everyday activities. This communication may be with any person involved in the life of the individuals living in the home. Ingenuity and creativity must be utilized when determining the best training methods, assistance and supports for an individual.
