Hours : 5:00a - 9:00a Monday - Friday; every other weekend 5:00a - 9:00a

JOB SUMMARY:

The phlebotomists at Penn State Health perform venous and capillary blood collections from inpatients and outpatients and receive other laboratory specimens (24 hour urine containers, sputum and stool specimens), and splitting of random urine specimens. Phlebotomists also enter, verify, and update patient demographic and insurance information into various internal information systems. In addition, they perform and report bedside glucose testing. Phlebotomists also provide training and shadowing experiences for nurses, EMT’s, Medical Students, Medical Assistants, and other students as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Six (6) months phlebotomy experience required OR completion of an internship through a certified training program required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

Bedside glucose and pediatric collection experience preferred.

Phlebotomy Certification, general computer skills, CPR and additional language skills (i.e. Spanish) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to stand and walk frequently; sit occasionally.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 constantly; 21-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently.

Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.

Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
