Summary:

  • Assist in the oversight of the Sterile Processing Department and reporting directly to the Supervisor of Sterile Processing. Must maintain a consistent high standard of sterile processing practice and assure that the department will meet or exceed the Joint Commission requirements. The Sterile Processing Technician carries out the safe collection of used medical equipment and instrumentation followed by decontamination, sterilization, assembling and testing as required. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for documentation, maintenance and distribution of medical supplies.

Responsibilities:

  • Asist the Supervisor with oversight of the Sterile Processing staff.
  • Provide updates and reports to Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Organizes and coordinates the daily services of the departments. Sets appropriate priorities, uses time effectively.
  • Recommends, implements and enforces departmental policies and procedures that guide and support the provisions of services.
  • Oversees and ensures quality improvement audits are completed.
  • Assists the Supervisor with financial accountability. Provides input on cost savings and productivity enhancements.
  • Communicates regularly with staff regarding needed areas of improvement. Is open to suggestions and new ideas from staff. Provides specific feedback to staff when necessary.
  • Fosters teamwork among staff and is a role model.

Credentials:

  • CBSPD or CRCST (Required)
  • CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification through IAHCSMM is preferred at hire; required after one year. required.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • And 3 years Central Supply Technician preferred.
  • Education Specialization: Completion of a sterilization/processing course
