Entity: Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP)

Summary:

  • Under the supervision of the Ophthalmology Imaging Leadership, the Ophthalmic Diagnostic Imaging Assistant is responsible for performing and coordinating patient testing services. The primary purpose of this position is to provide a variety of tests in order to aid physicians in the documentation, diagnosis, tracking, and treatment of eye conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic imaging, which may include corneal topography, optical coherence tomography, color and monochromatic fundus photography, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, fundus autofluorescence, retinal screening, fluorescein and/or indocyanine-green angiography, slit lamp biomicrography, goniography, specular microscopy, external eye photography, ocular surface interferometry, intraocular lens calculations, a-scan biometry, diagnostic b-scan ultrasonography, ultrasound biomicroscopy, and additional tests such as visual field exams, electrophysiology, color vision and dark adaptation testing.
  • Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform study imaging per protocol, which may require completion of additional research certifications and secure document transfer to reading centers.
  • Prepare rooms, maintaining cleanliness of testing areas.
  • Explain procedure details to patients, appropriately responding to questions and concerns.
  • Assist patients through procedures, ensuring secure and proper positioning for testing.
  • Confirm testing result availability through picture archiving and communication system, documenting procedure details within electronic medical record.
  • Identify equipment malfunction and quality issues, communicating problems to manager and technical support personnel.

Credentials:

  • COA, COT, or COMT is preferred

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Photographic Sciences, Imaging or Life Science (Preferred)
  • 1 year or more of work experience in ophthalmic imaging (Preferred)
