Job Overview:

The Property Large Loss Consultant investigates, adjusts, and settles high severity and/or complex first party property claims. The incumbent determines coverage and damages, and exercises independent discretion and judgment on claim handling. This position requires the employee to travel to loss sites across multi-jurisdictional territories. The incumbent would report to catastrophe scenes as necessary. Our Ideal candidate would reside in the Greater Phoenix Region of Arizona. This is a field position and requires the incumbent to travel within their assigned territory.

What You'll Do:

  • Investigates high severity and/or complex Personal Lines and Commercial Lines first party property claims for losses presented by insureds
  • Completes physical inspection of damage to determine covered damage and write estimates
  • Documents investigation of losses and keeps file records
  • Uses discretion and independent judgment in paying losses after damages and liabilities have been established
  • Pays the loss after damages and coverages have been established
  • Explain complex coverages, scopes of loss and estimates to gain understanding from insureds and other parties
  • Handles in-suit first party property claims in conjunction with defense counsel
  • Attends mediations, depositions, settlement conferences, and trials as necessary
  • Responsible for setting of reinsurance reserves and approving reinsurance billings
  • Member of the claim catastrophe team
  • Climbs roofs for inspection of damages
  • May act as an appraiser, when necessary, on property damage liability claims
  • Work outside in all temperatures and inspect property physically and visually
  • Must be able to work in adverse conditions including buildings damaged from fire, water, and other perils
  • Potential travel of 25-50% depending on storm and loss frequency
  • Work evenings, nights, and/or weekends as necessary
  • Attend training to further first party property knowledge as required by management
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires 2 years of industry experience

Preferred or Specialized

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 4-6 years of industry experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

  • Associate in Claims (AIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred
  • Must have valid Driver’s License
