Description

PRT is seeking a Project Manager to provide flight dynamics and satellite operations support to NASA’s Flight Dynamics Facility (FDF). The FDF provides analysis, mission design, and operational support to multiple launch vehicles such as the Atlas V, Falcon 9 and Vulcan, human spaceflight missions such as the International Space Station (ISS), Cygnus, Dream Chaser, and cargo Dragon spacecrafts, and astronaut missions such as crew Dragon, Orion, Soyuz, and the CST-100 Starliner spacecrafts. The facility also performs analysis, mission preparation, and development activities for the upcoming lunar missions comprising NASA’s Artemis program, which includes the Gateway outpost.

Responsibilities 

  • Provide overall project management for the Flight Operations team including technical, schedule, cost, quality, and resource management
  • Maintain delivery of quality, on-time products in routine operations
  • Ensure tasks/projects are on schedule and within budget
  • Plan and forecast annual budgets; identify variances and mitigation plans; report financial status to customer and program management
  • Work closely with supported customers including FDF Operations Directors, NASA Branch Management, and spacecraft projects, as needed
  • Ensure expectations are clearly captured, always met, and frequently exceeded
  • Routinely confirm satisfaction with team performance and mitigate all issues
  • Develop overall technical direction and vision
  • Develop technical staff through effective personnel management
  • Evaluate and regularly communicate staff performance; support career development
  • Identify and fill current or future skill gaps
  • Hire additional staff, when needed
  • Collaborate and communicate with other managers and program management
  • Determine needs and allocate resources to deliver on Customer commitment
  • Identify opportunities for technical or business process improvement
  • Recognize and pursue opportunities to grow the task

Some travel may be required, and some off-hours support will be required.

  • Ability to identify and implement strategic change though establishing and implementing a team vision
  • Capability to lead people toward meeting identified vision and goals by establishing an environment that fosters team and personnel development, and facilitates cooperation and teamwork
  • Background in applied engineering 
  • Effective in a continuously evolving environment
  • Managing multiple projects with emphasis on continuous improvement
  • Working in a multi-customer environment with competing priorities
  • Ability to communicate direction and concepts effectively at multiple levels, from junior engineers to senior managers and NASA customers
  • Creative thinking and effective problem solving through innovative solutions to complex technical/business problems

Desired Skills

  • Developing multi-disciplinary teams within space flight operations and analysis
  • Experience with financial management of a project
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and methodologies
  • Experience with Agile project management methodologies

Required Experience

7 years professional experience. Master’s degree counts as 2 years professional experience

Required Degree

Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related discipline.
