Pearl City Nursing Home is Hiring a Maintenance Worker Near Pearl, HI

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

    • Performs maintenance, repair, and testing on variety of equipment and systems to assure reliable, safe, and efficient operations.

    • Follows established control limits and preventive maintenance procedures according to manufacturer specifications as well as NFPA, OSHA, federal, and state guidelines.

    • Conducts checks of alarms, controls, other peripherals, and tests water temperatures.

    • Performs daily rounds and responds to routine and emergency maintenance requests and immediately reports safety hazards to supervisor and appropriate personnel of affected department.

    • Performs general maintenance, troubleshooting repair, and/or replacement of equipment fixtures, and systems within facility.

    • Maintains and repairs a variety structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic and electronic equipment/systems within facility.

    • Completes monthly emergency generator tests and logs appropriate documentation, reading etc.

    • Performing routine maintenance and safety checks of Nursing Home equipment, reports malfunctioning or damaged equipment and supplies to supervisor and affected departments.

    • Complete and proper logging of files and records responding work costs, time spent and materials/supplies used for each completed service requisition or work request.

    • Able to interpret blueprints, work from sketches, operation manuals and /or verbal instructions.

    • Monitors, maintains and order supplies, materials and equipment.

    • Ensures clean and well-maintained pest free facility, i.e. Basic facility repairs and upkeep. Makes recommendations for further assistance and/or support when beyond scope of capability or expertise. Assists with custodial, janitorial, heavy cleaning, utility/labor, grounds, and supply functions as required.

QUALIFICATION & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum high school education or equivalent.

  • Post High School Vocational/ Specialized Training.

  • Two (2) years general maintenance experience.

  • Ability to repair electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry.

  • Current Hawaii drivers license required.

  • Patience, flexibility, and tact required.

  • Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile resident, family member or visitor required.

  • Ability to work independently without supervision required.

  • Must coordinate maintenance activities with nursing staff to ensure residents are not in immediate work area.

  • Must be conscientious and frugal (not wasting supplies) and have common sense.

  • Must have integrity and respect for resident’s rights and property.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Maybe exposed to various elements as heat, moisture, humidity, fumes, chemicals, dust, water, noisy equipment. Limited exposure to cold (“Reefers”). Subject to falls, burns, cuts, scrapes. Maybe exposed to rain, wind, and adverse weather conditions. Subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule activities. Works in all areas of facility, including small, cramped spaces, high precarious or high locations (i.e. scaffolding, ladders). Maybe exposed to biohazard waste, diseases and conditions, including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. Involved with residents, all staff personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

WORK HOURS:

Varies per status. Eight (8) hour shifts, weekdays, weekends, and holidays according to staffing needs. Overtime may be required. May be required to work on additional hours and on holidays, normally scheduled days off, or emergency situations as necessary.
