POSITION SUMMARY

The HSE Field Specialist will work with team on evaluating and auditing the Pearce Renewables training program and safety regulations. Assist with implementing programs that will comply with Pearce Renewables training standards and safety regulations set by OSHA, our company, and site/project client requirements.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide advice and guidance to the HSE Department to direct the resources and activities of the organization to support the Health and Safety programs.
  • Provide overall leadership, professional knowledge, and expertise in support of Health and Safety processes for all aspects to include regulatory agency compliance, institutional policies and human capital development.
  • Travel and perform training on various platforms to evaluate/confirm technician expertise.
  • Evaluate trainees in the field to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Ensure that the customer’s expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Climb all wind turbine generator (WTG) platforms to observe, audit, and inspect work being performed.
  • Review quality, personal protective equipment (PPE), rescue gear and vehicle inspections; including tracking.
  • Work efficiently and safely under pressure and time constraints.
  • Travel to regional projects as needed, including project “kick-offs,” to inspect and ensure Pearce Renewables training/safety quality is being met.
  • Provide feedback to management team for future trainings and safety meetings.
  • Coordinate site safety audits/assessments with the HSE Manager and provide a monthly review which includes positive findings and opportunities with the associated Service Line(s) Management Team.
  • Coordinate all division-specific inspections/additional trainings and distribute relevant documentation to project clients.
  • Initiate action and close all division-specific customer safety complaints.
  • Ensure all documentation is stored properly upon the completion of trainings/inspections.
  • Act as a point of contact for first report of injury/illness or event and communicate with the HSE Manager.
  • Work with HS&E Manager to ensure all safety documents are compliant.
  • Serves as Pearce Renewables Safety Compliance Example in all Field Activities.
  • Audit Safety Training Records to ensure employees are current and qualified.
  • Development of Safety Procedures when necessary.
  • Ensure all tools are calibrated/inspected.
  • Lead POD safety discussions and topics onsite.
  • Audit technicians’ maintenance tasks per client manual.
  • Fill out deviation for any out-of-scope work.
  • Solicit customer feedback on quality of work.
  • Perform skills verification with employees during audits; including LOTO verification of skills.
  • Review, implement and manage HSE policies, plans, procedures, and processes to ensure the effective management of hazard identification, assessment of risk and implementation of controls.
  • Conduct HSE-related compliance audits, inspections, and assessments of company and client job sites and workplaces across the business and ensure that the region is compliant with HSE-related regulatory affairs, company standards, and client requirements.
  • Assist and coach supervisors with performing root cause analysis of HSE incidents, assist in case management of reported injuries and in the development of effective corrective actions.
  • Represent the Company at customer meetings and conferences regarding HSE issues.
  • Manage and report HSE information and incident statistics in line with Company requirements.
  • Visit client projects/job sites and conduct behavioral audits of personnel and promote a Zero Harm safety culture by motivating others, modeling the right example, intervening, engaging in discussion and convincing others.
  • Audit, measure and ensure the effective implementation of the HSE Management System and assist in the planning for HSE continual improvement to achieve objectives and targets Assist project managers in preparation of comprehensive project/job HSE Plans.
  • Serve as the HSE contact for all matters related to HSE.
  • Facilitate training, safety meeting topics and safety notices for employees on issues related to health, safety, and environmental compliance. Assist supervisors with performing root cause analysis of all HSE incidents and assist in case management of reported injuries.
  • Coordinate/facilitate monthly HSE-related meetings with areas of responsibility.
  • Provide support for the HSE systems.
  • Manage HSE Field Safety.

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience within the renewable industry.
  • Must be field ready and possess certifications for the following: GE LOTO, GWO, NFPE 70E, OSHA 10/30. (REQUIRED)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and its implementation.
  • Excellent organizational, detail oriented, prioritization skills and be able to work well under pressure, ensuring that work related activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to travel up to 85% of time nationally.
  • Work with minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent computer, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to promote best practice on HSE management to achieve compliance within all areas of the business.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and work with highly sensitive data and information.
  • Provide clear, practical advice and guidance for management and staff.
  • Strong and influential communicator and possess the ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Must be competent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated proficiency and confidence in delivering HSE power point presentations.

  • Willingness and ability to work with a professional attitude towards internal and external customers.
  • Work in the field as well as in a professional office environment.
  • If applicable, must be able to climb wind turbine upwards of 400 ft. as necessary, must be able to conduct overhead work as necessary, and must be able to lift/manipulate 50 pounds.
  • Maintain a weight between 120 and 280 pounds, including clothing and boots, for OSHA safety compliance.
