Position Title: Professional Engineer
Pay Rate: $90,000-130,000 per year

Essential Functions:

We are looking for a licensed professional engineer with a civil engineering background to conduct engineering inspections. This role is responsible for construction installation designs for natural gas/electric transmission lines and/or distribution. Completing engineering tasks such as layout, planning, directing, training, and coordinating civil/structural analysis; Calculations, construction drawings, contracts, design standards, and technical specifications as it applies to transmission lines and/or distribution with supervision by other engineers and supervisors.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing engineering and drawing packages for bidding, construction, as-built, and submittal purposes.
- Assist Project Managers with investigations and underground utility design plans.
- Act as a design lead in the oversight and performance of detailed design for all aspects of utility infrastructure development work for facility design and construction.
- Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation.
- Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
- Review and coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
- Apply current engineering principles and theories, design specifications, and Federal, State, and local design standards to develop safe, efficient, and economical project designs.
- Review and redline prepared, existing and proposed utility plans from survey data field notes and field sketches and research and compare maps provided by utility companies.
- Request field surveys, environmental studies, traffic studies, right-of-way information, structural designs, utility location/relocations, and other information as required.
- Coordinate with entities and specialty units concerned, involved or otherwise connected to the development and completion of projects to satisfy our needs and theirs to further the design process.
- AutoCAD Civil3D drafting reviews as necessary to create finished existing and proposed utility plan sets in support of projects.
- Provide detailed review of utility plans from utility mapping, survey data, field notes and sketches, and office review according to project manager and client specifications.
- Process and compile data from various sources to ensure accuracy and completeness during drawing development.
- Conduct thorough engineering analyses and evaluations for proposed sites.
- Provide guidance to project teams, addressing complex engineering challenges.
- Be responsible for preparing proposals, technical reports, specifications, and construction plans.
- Responsible for construction installation designs for natural gas/electric transmission lines and/or distribution.
- Design and review existing utility plans and proposed design plans according to company, client, or local jurisdiction standards.
- Quality check all work and compare to maps provided by utility companies to ensure complete and accurate plans are provided.
- Attend review meetings to analyze source material and mapped utilities to develop and refine an Existing Utility Plan and report.
- Work with Project Manager to include recommendations and observances for the design team where supplemental field investigation is necessary.
- Perform engineering designs on a variety of engineering tasks with ongoing supervision.
- Communicate challenges with regard to scope, cost, schedule and quality.
- Experience acting as a subject matter expert for utility principles and design (gas, electric, telecom).
- Travel Required as needed

- Ability to communicate with our clients in a technical and professional manner by telephone, email, and in person, and summarize your findings in your reports.
- Strong technical skills with the proven ability critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify utility discrepancies, and communication skills to work with field crews and clearly relay information to Project Managers and other entities.
- High skill level in technical writing, and the ability to put together a complete report with photographic references in a timely manner.
- Manage multiple investigations and reports simultaneously and complete the assignments within the provided timelines.
- Understanding client equipment, comprehending how it all works together, and effectively processing and compiling data from various sources during the drawing development process.
- Direct the work of consultants providing design and construction engineering services.
- Develop Task Orders and monitor work as it progresses to ensure compliance with Department procedures, design standards, and work processes.
- Gain and apply knowledge of appropriate industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Strong work ethic with desire to work in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of QA/QC utilization methods.
- Surveying experience.
- Design and lead others through design and execution of complex projects.
- Develop relationships with clients and all associated stakeholders.
- Ability to understand instructions and independently carry out instructed tasks.
- Ability to manage long term client program work.
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree required from ABET accredited institution T certification (passed the FE exam) required.
- 6-8 years utility design or demonstrated job knowledge.
- State Professional Engineer license.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D drafting or MicroStation, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with industry-specific codes and standards.
- Strong knowledge of structural, civil, and electrical engineering principles.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Possession of a valid State Driver’s License is required.
- Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
- Experience working in electrical and natural gas infrastructure & design distribution preferred Surveying.
- Knowledgeable in the use of utility designation devices and vacuum excavators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to handle tight deadlines Utilize the Professional Engineer’s experience and judgment to approve designs for assigned projects.
- Gain an understanding of CAD programs and the software analysis tools utilized in engineering design.
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
- Possession of a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required.
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
