is seeking a Metrology Engineer in Mobile, AL.
Job Responsibilities:
Accountable to operate and manage the Measurement System Analysis process (FU.IN.03.06) for each measurement system requested and deployed within the FAL USA A320 program:Analyze incoming requests for Measurement SystemsAssist with defining the Measurement System needed to fulfill the request requirements (for example: determine technique, methods, understanding sources of uncertainty)Evaluating sources of uncertainty in a measurement system using the 5M management system (Man, Method, Means, Material, and Environment)Design the Measurement ProcessProduce and/or assist in writing the work specification for acquisitions of new toolingMonitor development and test/validate the Measuring EquipmentCoordinate the qualification of the Measurement System
A Measurement System Analysis (MSA) report shall be producedAchieve operational performance along the value chain of the processEnsure the documentation and guidance for all in service measurement systems is accurate and available for use by internal and external stakeholders to use, maintain and calibrate the equipmentEnsure major updates and/or define & develop new measurement systems and processes according to the business process Consult the business on metrology issuesEnsure adherence and measure process performance efficiency and effectiveness as per defined KPIsPropose changes to improve the processResolve process non-conformancesContribute to process risk analysis managementConceptualize, specify and develop aircraft production process measurement tooling and equipment based on production needsLead jigs & tools projects related or unrelated to measurement system requestsProvide necessary reporting for measurement system/jigs & tools project status within the FAL project teamProvide technical expertise within the team to ensure project success through best practice application and knowledge of processesEvaluate, specify and manage the modification of existing measurement equipment for adaptation to customer needsFulfill as needed the role of Jigs & Tools Quality EngineerComplete training necessary to receive and maintain Quality Authorization for Jigs & Tools QualityDefine Quality Assurance (QA) requirements in the technical specifications for custom tooling and equipmentCoordinate QA measures with jigs & tools suppliers and monitor their implementationParticipate in the pre-development phase in the creation of new production conceptsDefinition of test characteristicsComparison of new means of production with the requirementsCarry out tests at the manufacturerCoordinating and conducting tests for the commissioning of production lines and assembly linesAcceptance testing of small-jigsManagement of incoming tooling and organization of the receiving areaSupport 3D measurements with laser trackers on production systemsComplaint/nonconformity management for the acceptance testsDocumentation of quality assurance activities resultsParticipation in supplier evaluationTroubleshooting (determination of causes of error, initiation and verification of remedial measures)Other duties as assigned:Lead special projects assigned by the managerSupport other departments as neededIs a technical expert to call for tender processes including contributing to creation of subcontract specifications and scope of work statementsProvide subcontract advice and counsel to program managers, engineering personnel, and other related functions such as finance, quality and contract administrationResponsible to track, follow-up and report on corrective action plans regarding service delivery
Basic Hiring Criteria:
Degree in Metrology or a related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experienceDemonstrated experience developing and managing measurement systems5 years of experience with measurement systems in a manufacturing environmentTechnical certifications preferredOSHA certifications preferredData analysis and presentation skills - ability to technically explain tooling/equipment issuesStrong organization skills - able to oversee many ongoing topics
Able to train others in these areasKnowledge of Metrology basics, autonomy in reading technical drawings, the geometric characteristics and their symbols i.p
datum and surface definitionsDemonstrated knowledge in 3D and 6D measurement systems (e.g
Laser Tracker; 3D Scanner;…) and standard measurement software (e.g
Spatial Analyzer; Metrolog; PolyWorks;…)Able to develop, define and deploy complex measurement systems respecting metrological constraints and engineering requirementsAble to consult Engineering on defining the requirements (tolerances; datum; etc.) based on manufacturing requirements and capabilities and support manufacturing on practical problem solving linked to measurement systemsAble to transfer knowledge of the Business Processes (ABP) FU.IN.03.06 or equivalent to newcomersFlexibility to quickly shift priorities based on the needs of the FALCapable to support/lead MFTs organized to solve complex technical issuesCapable of managing complex topics with many stakeholders
Strong communication and leadership skills to facilitate resolution of urgent maintenance topicsTechnical Systems Proficiency:CatiaSpatial AnalyzerPolyworksSAPTravel: <10% Domestic and InternationalCapable to independently make complex technical decisions related to assigned projectsCapable to lead recovery activities resulting from unplanned technical challengesAble to validate cost assessments and provide necessary justifications
