Description

1. Works as a member of the dental team to develop and provide oral health care for patients.
2. Performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
3. Records dental findings and pertinent patient information in the electronic dental record, uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting; takes patient vital signs as required.
4. Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygienist procedures.
5. Performs professional dental care in the field of dental hygiene including all related clinical procedures when may include cleaning, coronal polishing, x-rays, periodontal therapy, scaling, application of sealants and fluorides, and related procedures.
6. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.
7. Performs patient triage and initiates patient care as appropriate for walk-in patients.
8. Assists in preparation of patient care areas, and sterilization and adheres to all infection control protocols and to organization policies and procedures.
9. Assist as required with patient scheduling, routine care, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties.
10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Dental Director.

1. Maintain professional growth which includes attendance at training and development programs.

Qualifications

Experience/Training:

1. Degree from an approved Dental Hygienist program and proper certification.
2. Current licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist
3. Ability to function in a computer oriented office, including working knowledge of pertinent software.
4. Must obtain satisfactory results from an Illinois State Police Conviction Background Check.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Current and valid drivers licenses.
• Dental Hygienist Illinois Licensure Required.
• CPR certified.

Technical Knowledge:

• PC, email, facsimile machine, computerized voice mail system, and common office machines.

Software Knowledge:

• Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint); Dentricity

Language Skills:

• Ability to read and write proficiently using the English language.
• Bi-lingual Spanish highly desired.
• Ability to interact and speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of people.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand, bend and stretch for extended periods.
• Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
• Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
• Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
• Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing that there is a problem.
• Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
• Ability to travel and maneuver between site locations.
• Able to lift up to 20 pounds.
