Overview

The Grocery Merchandiser is responsible for innovation, development, and analysis of all aspects of the Grocery Program consistent with PCC’s Mission and Values. They work collaboratively with Store operations and office support departments to ensure successful execution of their program in accordance with financial, social and environmental goals.

Main Job Responsibilities

  • Models and provides excellent professional customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Works with the Center Store Director and Pricing Manager in execution of pricing and promotional programs for grocery categories based on targeted gross profits, desired PCC market position, and review of supplier costs
  • Implements and maintains PCC grocery product guidelines and oversees the selection of new grocery products following these guidelines and ensures current selections are staying compliant with these guidelines
  • Supports co-op-wide promotional plans in collaboration with marketing, other merchandisers, IT, and operations departments. This includes: monthly promotions, seasonal events, and in store sampling and demonstrations
  • Works in conjunction with Director and/or Category Manager in establishing a review calendar for analyzing category performance, new item placement and schematics for resets
  • Represents PCC in the industry and creates and maintains positive strategic vendor partnerships
  • Keeps up with product trends, issues, and concerns
  • Provides training, mentoring, and development to store grocery staff and Associate Merchandiser
  • Communicates effectively, both in writing and verbally, supporting store directors, grocery coordinators, and other staff in the stores
  • Weekly store visits in order to support and maintain established PCC grocery merchandising guidelines and best practices for execution of said guidelines

Qualifications and Skills

REQUIRED:

  • 5 years’ experience in creative visual merchandising including an understanding of gross profit margins and product promotions
  • 5 years’ experience in progressively more responsible management
  • 2 years’ experience in project management for new store set-up or remodels
  • Proven ability to provide excellent, professional customer service
  • Depth of knowledge around category management and pricing from a framework of strategic and competitive pricing
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion work, including building/expanding BIPOC owned brand presence in product mix
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and negotiating skills, including developing and maintaining positive vendor relations
  • Effective and flexible communication skills
  • In depth knowledge of grocery products in the natural and organic grocery industry
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem solve, and make business decisions in a complex retail environment
  • Ability to be a team player and appreciate working collaboratively as well as independently
  • Availability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays and travel to all PCC locations, industry conferences and supplier visits when needed
  • Computer skills required with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
