We are looking for a Legal Counsel in Charlotte, NC.
This position provides legal support to a number of Maersk business functions, including commercial, finance, tax and government affairs. The primary focus is on transportation regulatory issues and supporting ocean and customs broker services. The candidate will also periodically be expected to take on additional tasks such as assisting with litigation, M&A, and other strategic projects.

Key responsibilities
- Advise ocean, truck and air freight businesses on US transportation regulatory issues.
- Advise on US customs broker issues
- Transportation regulatory (US Shipping Act, FMCSA, USCBP) experience useful but not required.
- Manage customer disputes and complaints under the US Shipping Act.
- Draft, review and negotiate customer contracts.
- Negotiate and advise on procurement contracts.
- Support the business in contract disputes with marine terminal operators, railroads and government authorities.
- Support the establishment of new ventures in the container depot business (running a container yard with maintenance and repair services).
- Participate in strategic transactions and help drive the overall growth strategy.
- Work on corporate governance issues such as internal company mergers and simplifying legal structures.
- Support real estate transactions (leases and property sales)
We are looking for
- Minimum three years’ experience as an attorney.
- Targeted experience would be that of a junior to mid-level law firm associate.
- Experience in drafting and redlining contracts.
- Strong problem-solving, writing and analytical abilities.
- Strong work ethic.
- Transportation Industry experience is a plus but is not required.

Work is mostly performed outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have to withstand exposure to outdoor/adverse working conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally noisy.
