PayByPhone is searching for its next Chief Technology Officer 

About the role 

Guided by a proactive vision and aligned with company leadership principles and values, this role owns the technology delivery of a leading global vehicle parking payments business. As part of our parent company’s global FLEETCOR Technology leadership team and the PayByPhone executive leadership team, this role helps shape and drive the strategic technology vision and ensure the delivery of world class results. Responsible for striking a delicate balance between developing cutting-edge technology strategies and solutions to drive business growth while ensuring the consistent implementation of operational practices that support market sustainability, penetration, and reliable delivery. 

How we work 

This will be a hybrid position, operating out of our Vancouver office, and accommodating moderate quarterly travel requirements. While many of our North American employees are eligible to work from home most of the time, our head office in Yaletown, Vancouver is open Monday - Friday for those who prefer an office environment to collaborate with their teams and coworkers. We also host a great party!

What you'll do 

  • Define the PayByPhone technology strategy in support of the business strategy.
  • Oversee the technology delivery of a leading global vehicle parking payments business.
  • Effectively represent Technology and PayByPhone as a member of the PayByPhone executive management team (“mBoard”) while equally representing and participating as a key member of the FLEETCOR International Fleet technology senior leadership team.
  • Own the PayByPhone technology relationship as the single point of contact with key stakeholders to effectively manage expectations and deliver business change and growth.
  • Drive a collaborative working practice with peer groups within both PayByPhone and the wider FLEETCOR group to align the quarterly, yearly, and multi-year roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Infrastructure and Infosec teams to ensure high levels of system availability, security, and compliance, measuring performance and ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Foster strong relationships and engagement levels with key stakeholders through regular travel to company sites.
  • Provide proactive and disciplined financial control, project governance and ad hoc reporting to the CIO.
  • Ensure quality and on-time on-budget delivery of PayByPhone/FLEETCOR technology products and services.
  • Understand business needs to support maximized ROI of the value proposition in technology enhancements.
  • Build and execute agile resource plans to present seamless technology implementations, using a mix of resources available e.g., onshore, offshore and consultancy.
  • Lead, coach, and inspire the technology team for innovation, continuous technology renewal, and global system enhancement to augment PayByPhone’s global presence.

What you bring 

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related technical field is highly desirable. 
  • 15 years’ experience in progressive leadership roles in a SaaS technology organization. 
  • Extensive experience in high-volume payments / transactions processing with a global consumer-based app/web solution meeting respective legislative, language and currency needs.
  • Prior experience as CTO or VP Technology within a multi-entity highly matrixed global organization.
  • Extensive experience maturing a Technology team that has undergone hypergrowth at the expense of some best practices.
  • Proven track record with hybrid (traditional and agile) methodologies, skilled at developing and refining departmental processes, setting teams to be self-managing and multi-skilled.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing and growing current talent and supplementing with new high-performing talent.
  • Technical experience and understanding of hosted platforms such as Azure and AmazonSQS, API, ETL and Service Bus solutions such as Fuse, Talend and IBMConnect, as well as bespoke solutions built using MS SQL databases, .Net, C# and Angular.
  • Previous experience with Salesforce, Service Cloud, ServiceNow and AWS Native Cloud solutions. 
  • Past experience advocating for and driving the development of a decoupled, cloud-based architecture, capable of operational efficiency, platform growth, and supporting evolving business requirements.
  • Solid grasp of established and emerging technology trends, areas such as cloud-based architectures, API and service driven solutions, AI and big data concepts.
  • Track record leading large technology teams with more than 100 technology staff. 
  • Able to work in complex organizational models where resources are a mix of local, global, in-house and 3rd party.
  • Prior experience sourcing and establishing near-shore/off-shore talent /teams. 
  • Creative and innovative, showing a track record of finding the right solutions that can meet the needs of one of the world’s leading payments businesses. 
  • Effectively lean into one team mindset, working across organizational, regional, and global boundaries; must be able to engage at all levels of the business and have strong communication skills and presence.
  • Embrace ‘do the right thing’, while balancing business needs, commercial opportunities, and technical innovation.
  • Able to work well with ambiguity or when requirements are still undetermined. 
  • Able to showcase control of complex budgets, financial disciplines, and transparent reporting of progress to keep stakeholders informed and aid great decision-making.
  • The ability to travel globally occasionally (approx. once per quarter).

  • Immediately take ownership of the technology strategies, software development lifecycle, budget, strategic partners, team engagement, organizational design, communications, and succession planning.
