Paul J. Ford and Company is Hiring a Construction Foreman - Telecom Near Columbus, OH

Position Summary
Foreman is responsible for onsite supervision of installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair work on communication towers, rooftops, and other structures. Responsible for planning and coordinating the work efforts of crewmen to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently in accordance with applicable plans, codes, and industry standards.
Essential Functions
  • Possess an understanding of the scheduling, material control, and labor needs, as well as the scope of work and all related parts of a project in order to execute work orders accurately.
  • Supervise the work of crewmen on the job site, and ensure each worker completes assigned tasks accurately and on time.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for tower technicians on assigned tasks; coordinate new technician training as needed.
  • Train crewmen on safety practices on the work site and ensure all workers adhere to Paul J. Ford and Company’s Health and Safety program.
  • Conduct team meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans, and project schedules to the crews.
  • Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions. Report all safety hazards to the Construction Manager and take corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards.
  • Provide all the necessary photos/closeout documents to the Construction Manager.
  • Regularly communicate with the Construction Manager, updating several times a day about project progress, updates, and issues.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools per the applicable plans, specifications codes, and industry standards.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure work is completed according to drawings and plans.
  • When requested, complete reports related to project status, progress, or other details, using computer software.
  • Take site survey photos or photos of work performed using digital cameras.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that you get along with clients, coworkers, and management.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to the Construction Manager and participate in the investigation process as needed.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and maintain all certifications.
  • If certified to operate equipment, ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and in good working order, and daily inspections are completed for equipment being utilized.
  • Attend and participate in PJF meetings.
  • Perform any tasks deemed necessary by the Construction Manager and/or Director.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, blueprints, plans, datasheets, or site drawings to determine work to be done and communicate details and tasks to work crews.
  • Have strong knowledge of the construction, testing, maintenance, and repair of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years’ experience climbing telecommunications towers preferred, transferable military jobs (radioman, comm techs, field radio personnel) strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience supervising field crews.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (ability to comply with Company Driving Policy).
  • Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, which include the following: criminal background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered spaces and uneven areas and see and hear naturally or with correction.
  • Must have the full range of motion and flexibility consistent with the requirements of the job
  • Will work in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to a set procedures.
  • Requires repetitive movement for extended periods.
  • Requires climbing and maintaining balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • May work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
  • Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Work around hazardous equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Foreman is responsible for direct onsite supervision of tower technicians.
