    Support Staff - School Nurse Floater - Pattonville School District (2024-2025)

    • Salary Grade: 215 ($41,800 - $65,600 per year / 196 days)
      • This listed rate is the 2023-2024 salary range. The rate will be adjusted to the 2024-2025 salary range.

    Position Purpose:
    • The school nurse floater will provide substitute nurse coverage on a short term or long term basis throughout the District when school nurses are absent.
    • To provide assessment, screening, planning, intervention, evaluation, counseling, management, and/or referrals concerning the health and medical care needs of students for the purpose of minimizing absences due to illness, maximizing educational opportunities, and creating a healthy school climate.
    Essential Functions:
    • Works collaboratively with lead nurse, health care providers, students, parents/guardians, school district staff and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students.
    • Assists in the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive school health program.
    • Collects information about the health development status of students for compliance with state immunization regulations and Board of Education policies.
    • Conducts school programs related to student health, sight, and hearing testing.
    • Performs nursing assessments for students who are ill or injured and provides appropriate care and/or referrals for those students.
    • Evaluates nursing care provided and changes plan of care as necessary.
    • Implements Board of Education policies with respect to the exclusion and readmission of students in connection with certain infectious and contagious diseases.
    • Maintains accurate records and documentation in accordance with state/federal law, and Board of Education policies.
    • Develops individual health care plans when needed with specific goals, nursing diagnosis, and interventions delineating school-nursing actions unique to students’ needs and for incorporation into the student’s individualized educational plan.
    • Intervenes as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness and effect rehabilitation.
    • Serves as a member of school teams as a designated health care professional.
    • Provides guidance, counseling, and health education to students, parents/guardians, and employees as necessary.
    • Reports to parents/guardians, school district personnel, physicians, clinics, and others as needed to meet student health needs.
    • Notifies the appropriate person or agency of student’s injury/illness in accordance with Board of Education policy as necessary.
    • Confers with parents/guardians, students, and school district staff, health and other care professionals to interpret health and/or developmental assessments.
    Additional Duties:
    • May periodically be asked to travel to other schools in the district to administer medicine, medical treatments, etc. when a substitute nurse or the lead nurse is unavailable.
    • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the lead nurse or the district administration.

    • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses, injuries, nutrition, and related areas.
    • Ability to diagnose and provide care for ill or injured students.
    • Ability to convey appropriate medical information to school district staff or medical professionals.
    • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs.
    • Ability to describe orally and in writing school health services provided, issues and concerns regarding school health.
    Safety Requirements:
    • Adheres to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including requirements set forth in federal/state law, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
    • Implements Board policies regarding the medical or health care of employees and students.
    License or Certificate:
    • Registered professional nurse, designated as R.N. as defined and determined by state law, and currently licensed in the state.
    • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
