The HSE Analyst-Policy Development will be responsible for the development of Company policies, standards and processes; conducting field audits; evaluation of industry best practices; and maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. This position will involve occasional manual labor functions and duties related to policy development activities. The HSE Analyst -Policy Development employee works as part of the policy development team that interacts with department heads, senior management, and other leaders in the organization. The candidate should have a proven track record in business writing skills, experience within the onshore drilling industry, and a commitment to achieving assigned HSE and Company objectives.

The HSE Analyst-Policy Development will be responsible for the development of Company policies, standards and processes; conducting field audits; evaluation of industry best practices; and maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. This position will involve occasional manual labor functions and duties related to policy development activities. The HSE Analyst -Policy Development employee works as part of the policy development team that interacts with department heads, senior management, and other leaders in the organization. The candidate should have a proven track record in business writing skills, experience within the onshore drilling industry, and a commitment to achieving assigned HSE and Company objectives.

Detailed Description:

  • Develop, update, and maintain Company policies, procedures, training programs, and standards
  • Provide HSE support, coaching, and training at all levels of the organization
  • Conduct or participate in HSE field audits of policies, procedures and processes to ensure proper implementation and compliance, and provide written or oral reports to management
  • Support the implementation and achievement of HSE objectives and performance goals
  • Maintain and update management systems utilized for collecting, storing, analyzing, tracking, and reporting HSE performance data

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively through a variety of writing skills for policy development and improvement
  • Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to engage different audiences
  • Technical proficiency to support the Company in the areas of the Management System and Incident Management applications
  • Ability to understand and communicate regulations concerning the drilling industry,
  • Demonstrate risk management and risk assessment skills
  • Proficiency with software programs, including but not limited to, MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Technical proficiency in auditing, incident investigation and documentation of findings
  • Ability to travel to remote drilling rig work sites with the capability of overnight stay(s)
  • Ability to safely navigate drilling rig work sites, including but not limited to, walking, stepping, climbing, standing, bending, and kneeling during normal rig operating conditions (day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather)
  • Limited to moderate use of a variety of hand and power tools during inspections, investigations, and training
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow and give directions when working with others
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or High School Diploma with 3 years equivalent training and experience developing, implementing and updating policies, procedures, processes and/or manuals
  • One-year experience of business writing in the oil and gas industry or equivalent
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and be eligible to meet requirements of Company’s Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy

Preferred Requirements:

  • One-year experience in an HSE role with understanding of related responsibilities, procedures and processes (Advisor, Analyst, Supervisor or Manager)
  • Experience working on a land-based drilling rig in either floors, motors, or derricks position
  • One-year experience conducting field audits including employee interviews, procedure and emergency drill observation, paperwork review, and equipment inspection
  • One-year experience maintaining computer-based management system applications

Additional Details:

This position requires the person to work primarily in an office environment with periodic visits to field locations in all types of weather conditions, including precipitation, cold / heat, high wind, and turbulent conditions. The HSE Analyst must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. They must be able to work closely with all levels of management and under time-sensitive deadlines to complete job assignments. They must be willing to work extended schedules that will include working days; and occasionally nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
