The Art & Drama Specialist at Pathfinder is pivotal in empowering individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities to explore and express themselves through art and drama. Working alongside individuals of all ages, the Art & Drama Specialist supports them in leading self-directed lives and contributing to their communities. They ensure quality support and services, fostering creativity, communication, and personal growth.

The Art & Drama Specialist facilitates art and drama experiences, teaching skills, and coordinating opportunities for participation in various settings. They also assist individuals in learning daily living, communication, and work skills, employing all necessary training and knowledge of a Direct Support Professional (DSP), including administering medications, CPR/First Aid, and Crisis Prevention Intervention.

Key responsibilities include developing person-specific knowledge of each individual, establishing collaborative relationships through effective communication, and advocating for the rights of the individuals supported. The Art & Drama Specialist teaches skills, supports daily living activities, and ensures the implementation of individual support plans while safeguarding personal resources and maintaining confidentiality.

Moreover, the Art and drama Specialist collaborates with individuals and others to ethically and professionally plan and implement individualized support. They monitor medical conditions, promote optimal health, and ensure individuals are free from abuse or exploitation. Additionally, they maintain fiscal accountability and fulfill safety responsibilities related to fire prevention, evacuation, and maintenance.

Furthermore, the Art & Drama Specialist demonstrates proficiency in administrative tasks such as completing sales logs and entering invoices and expenses. They also possess the knowledge and ability to coordinate drama program practices, plan public performances, and facilitate the tagging, framing, and rotating of art pieces as needed.

With an interest in exploring acting and art opportunities, the Art & Drama Specialist fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals can discover their creative potential and thrive.

Requirements

Preferred Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma/GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Basic language, writing, and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to support people with disabilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule if needed.
  • Ability to teach and enable art experiences.
  • Crisis prevention, intervention, and teaching skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, insured vehicle, and safe driving record.
  • Ability to speak, hear, and read the English language.
  • Be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull against potential resistance, implement non-physical and approved physical interventions and CPR with people supported when needed.
  • shall have adequate vision, writing, and documentation skills to perform the job's essential functions.
