Position Responsibilities: The nature of the business of the Department of Social Services is to provide programs of governmental assistance to those who are eligible for such assistance by the rules and regulations of each program.

Work involves performing intake and/or processing functions in the Food and Nutrition Program. The IMC I will be involved in constant contact with the public. Examples of duties performed include but are not limited to: interviewing applicants/clients and/or their designated authorized representatives, computing budgets to determine initial eligibility and/or continued eligibility for assistance, verification of factors that relate to initial and ongoing eligibility such as income, residence, ownership or property and other resources etc., explanation of program(s) policy and benefits to applicants, their designated authorized representatives and to the public, coordination and communication with other agencies and organizations such as hospitals, health departments, child support enforcement, financial institutions, insurance companies, Register of Deeds, tax offices, employers etc., maintaining statistical information, computer generated forms and notices and other assistance to families and children. This staff person may act as the Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Coordinator for recipients of the Medicaid program(s). Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviews with recipients, explanation of program, completion of required forms, coordination with local transportation vendor(s) to schedule services and/or completion of gas vouchers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills; ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of regulations, policies and procedures. Have the ability to communicate with people of varied economic, social and educational backgrounds, the public at large and public officials to obtain data and to explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures. Must be able to understand the needs and problems of clients/applicants; be able to perform caseworker function under and within structured time frames. Ability to learn the program area of assignment and all agency programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. Strong time management and work load organizational skills are essential. Flexibility in work habits and the ability to digest and implement changing rules and regulations related to the different public assistance programs is necessary. Some knowledge of medical terms and their usage would be helpful. Skills with computer software programs (Excel, Word, Adobe, Outlook etc.) are greatly preferred.

Minimum Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The position will require an individual to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch, either between 12:00 and 1:00 or 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. Some overtime work may be required as needed for emergencies or mass program changes, etc. Each work week consists of forty (40) hours. The rate of pay for an Income Maintenance Caseworker I starts at $33,339.
