The Kaizen – Machining Group Leader is a vital leadership position in the Maintenance group. This role is responsible for the safety of their team, supervising the machining activity in the Kaizen shop, as well as training team members on the machining equipment in the Kaizen shop. The ideal candidate has extensive experience as a machinist and understands how to turn a concept or drawing into a tangible, high quality machined product. This position reports to the Assistant Manager of the Preventive Maintenance team.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Group Leader will have direct supervisor of the Kaizen Team Leaders and Team Members.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

• Receive direction from the Assistant Manager and execute that direction successfully.
• Ensure all members on the Kaizen team are trained in safety procedures and follow safety policies consistently, every day. This role completes regular safety audits to ensure compliance.
• Support the machining needs of production, maintenance, or engineering by:
  • Reviewing all machining work orders prior to issuing to your team to complete.
  • During the fabrication work, follow-up with your team to ensure they have the resources they need to complete the job in a timely manner.
  • Following up with the work order requestor to let them know about the completion of the job. Check their level of satisfaction and convert their feedback into improvements in the Kaizen shop.
• Continuously improve the machining members’ skills by coaching them on machining best practices to ensure the highest level of quality.
• When not completing a work order, ensure all members are assigned a task, such as training or 5S activity.
• Regularly assess team members’ skills, coach them on their deficiencies, and create plans to level-up.
• Complete daily administrative tasks such as timecard management, purchase orders, inventory audits, and work order reports.
• Establish and maintain productive and effective working relationships with the production team members and Japanese team members.
• Periodically reflect on your team’s performance as well as your own, then identify what can be improved.
• Safely execute all workplace rules and standards.

Required Qualification / Education

• High school Diploma or GED required; college or technical school coursework completed is a plus
• Minimum of 3 years as a machinist (lathe, grind, mill, EDM)
• Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role
• Able to read blueprints and possesses a basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Able to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, gage pins, gage blocks, thread gages, dial indicators, etc.
• Possesses basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
