Pasado's Safe Haven is Hiring a Veterinarian Near Everett, WA

At Pasado’s Safe Haven, we envision a world where every animal is recognized as an individual with the right to live free from abuse, abandonment, neglect, and exploitation. Our Pet Services Program is focused on providing low-cost spay/neuter to marginalized populations who otherwise wouldn’t have access to this service and helping to prevent shelter overpopulation and unnecessary euthanasia.

The High Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinarian is responsible for overseeing all medical care and surgeries for the animals receiving services. This position is responsible for oversight of the controlled drugs and will work closely with the Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic Manager to ensure the program is operated efficiently and to its fullest potential, guaranteeing the safe sterilization of as many animals as possible in the community. Clinics operate from a mobile station that will will change locations within Snohomish county on a regular basis.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide humane care and safe surgeries of public animals.
  • Perform high quality, high volume spay and neuter surgeries in a small mobile clinic setting.
  • Maintain valid Washington State Veterinary license and register with the Drug Enforcement Administration for controlled substances; Comply with applicable standards for Veterinarians as established by the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association.
  • Examine and evaluate client animals in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Maintain superior medical standards, maintaining a healthy, safe, and sanitary environment for all spay/neuter clinics.
  • Work cooperatively with the LVT to ensure proper management of each clinic.
  • Administer medications, anesthesia drugs, and prepare animals for surgery in accordance with WAC 246-935-040.
  • Effectively communicate condition and status of animals with staff.
  • Oversee control of drugs used at each clinic by supervising the LVT during clinic.
  • Train staff as needed on appropriate handling of animals, drugs, equipment, etc.
  • Enforce and adhere to existing sanitation and disease prevention protocols; actively contribute to their continuous improvement.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures; actively contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on client, patient and donor information.
  • Understand all facets of the daily operations.
  • Be respectful of co-workers and treat staff, clients, volunteers, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Ensure all protocols and procedures are adhered to, including OSHA/L&I standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic Manager.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Education Requirements as per Washington State Department of Health & Veterinary Board of Governors WAC 246-935-040.
  • Ability to perform or to be trained up to perform up to 35 hiqh-quality spays and neuters.
  • Ability to begin surgeries at 8:30am.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and respond to patient symptoms, reactions and recovery progress.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and needs and solve them and/or communicate them appropriately.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate complex processes/concepts to a wide variety of people, both in written and verbal form.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • A self-starter, able to prioritize effectively, possess strong organizational skills, and oral communication skills.
  • Be able to stand for extended periods of time while performing complex surgical procedures.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Education and Experience:

  • Valid Washington Veterinary license.
  • Valid DEA license or willingness to get one.
  • One year experience in high quality/high volume spay/neuter environment, including pediatric, cryptorchid, pyometra, and third-trimester pregnancies.

Employment:

  • Contract Position, 1-2 days per week (current operating schedule may be adjusted to accommodate candidate's schedule. Surgery time depends on clinic caseload; averages 5-6 hours.
  • Mobile Clinic (various locations primarily in Snohomish County & occasionally in King County)
  • Contract Rate: Negotiable
