Partnership Schools is Hiring an Intervention Specialist Near Cleveland, OH

Position: Intervention Specialist
Location: Cleveland, OH
Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide services and accommodations to students identified with a disability
  • Assist in coordinating the special education program for all students with disabilities in the community
  • Assist in the implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for educating students with disabilities
  • Administer contract services for children
  • Implement and document data for individual student IEP’s
  • Develop IEP’s for children; assist in scheduling IEP conferences
  • Provide classroom teachers with resource information
  • Coordinate activities between the school district and outside agencies
  • Work with regular classroom teachers co-teaching in an inclusion setting
  • Prepare local, state and federal reports relative to areas of special education and pupil personnel services
  • Serve as a member of IAT and IEP teams as required
  • Attend IEP conferences
  • Consult with regular education teacher concerning modifications, adaptations or alternate assignments in regular education classroom for special education students
  • Ensure record keeping tasks and individual records of all children recommended to receive special education services or those enrolled in special education
  • Remain in compliance with dates required
  • Analyze data to create and implement behavior intervention plans
  • Adhere to rules and regulations regarding programs that relate to special education
  • Utilize CKLA intervention guide to meet the needs of all students
  • Evaluate test scores to monitor progress of students
  • Compile and maintain an accurate inventory of special education materials
  • Represent the district at local, state and regional activities/committees as agreed to
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student IEP's, testing information, student and staff information
  • Ensure that the IEP goals/objectives for students are met
  • Facilitate communication with families and staff
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
  • Implement strategies to accomplish individualized program goals
  • Consult with regular classroom teacher concerning placement of potential students
  • Adapt curriculum and provide alternative teaching techniques and assessments to best enhance student learning
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
  • Support school, enforce school rules and policies
  • Participate on building level teams and/or teacher based teams and/or district level "teams"
  • Organize various subject specific programs within assigned building
  • Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as "team" teaching, semester projects, etc.
  • Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed upon
  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Serve on committees and cocurricular activities as agreed upon
  • Supervise student teachers
  • Discipline students when necessary following the district PBIS model
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant or Special Education Director
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university
  • Less than one-year related experience
  • Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license
  • Intervention specialist required
  • Meet the applicable requirement of a “highly qualified” teacher under the No Child Left Behind Act within the requirements
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of academic areas and various teaching methodologies
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Training in varied instructional designs
  • Skills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
  • Knowledge in child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks
  • Educational pedagogy
  • Student/teacher professional relationship
  • Technology skills eg. electronic grades, Moodle
  • Basic first aid
Additional Working Conditions:
  • Occasional evening/weekend/summer work
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds, e.g., classroom materials and supplies
  • Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, crouch, kneel, balance and stoop
  • Possible requirement to travel
  • Occasional exposure to high heat index temperatures and low wind chill temperatures
