Job Summary/Overview

As a Café Associate, you are the face of On Top of the World. You are the person who helps fulfill our mission of making people's lives a little easier. In addition to providing friendly, courteous, and efficient service to our residents, you will also be responsible for a variety of other tasks.

You must be able to communicate in a courteous and professional manner, enjoy working with the senior population, and have good attention to detail. You will be responsible for the efficient operation of the Good Karma Café located in the East Activity Center. This is a visible position and you must exhibit excellent customer service skills to members of the community, general public, and other employees.

The position is part-time with a schedule of nine (9) hours per day, three days per week. There are two schedules available: Monday through Wednesday OR Thursday through Saturday and the hours are 6:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are routine tasks performed daily or as necessary:

• Responsible for properly and thoroughly completing all opening and closing procedures for the Café.
• Adept with cash handling and operating the point of sale (POS) system in a professional and honest manner.
• Handle all cash and credit card transactions according to company procedures without deviation.
• Provide prompt, efficient, friendly, and courteous customer service to all patrons.
• Understand and comply with state health code procedures and requirements.
• Maintain a sanitary and organized café including displays and machines at all times.
• Accountable for maintaining inventory control (including proper product rotation), product monitoring, product promotions, and purchasing of new inventory.
• Required to follow company standards regarding merchandise presentation, safety, sanitation, service, and up selling.
• Report all customer, inventory, maintenance, and safety issues to the management in a timely manner.
• Generate daily reports from the POS or through manual tracking.
• Responsible for daily reconciliation of all transactions generated in the Café.
• Assist with special events.

In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include such other responsibilities and duties as assigned from time to time, based upon OTOW Inc. needs or requirements.

Working Conditions

The working conditions described are typical of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The majority of work is performed in indoors. Exposure to high temperatures (95 degrees and above), low temperatures (32 degrees and below) and a variety of weather conditions could be possible. The typical noise level is quiet to very loud.

Must be flexible, schedules may be rearranged to meet deadlines, attend meetings, and community activities or to cover open shifts. Position requires ability to work independently and within a team environment. Willingness to assist team members when requested.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the individual will be required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell; occasional sit, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting up to forty pounds unassisted. Vision requirements are close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work is majority performed standing and walking.

Hazardous Exposure Category

May involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids. May involve exposure to fuels and oils.

Reports to: Assistant General Manager, Parkway Maintenance & Management Pinellas

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

• Minimum High School Diploma/GED
• One year of related experience and/or training.
• One year previous front-end café, food handling, or relevant experience is required including experience with a Point of Service (POS) system.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
• Preferred experience in a similar position within a residential community.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, maturity, strong work ethic, ability to manage multiple priorities, and good judgment.
• Must be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.
• Ability to use a touch screen computer.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to adapt to changes in workflow and processes.
• Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality are required.

Certifications or Licenses

Current valid Florida driver’s license is mandatory with acceptable driving history.
