Park University is Hiring a Maintenance Worker III-Carpenter Near Parkville, MO

The Maintenance Worker III-Carpenter is responsible to perform work ensure the upkeep and improvement of the University’s facilities. This position, under general supervision, performs all semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, repair, construction, and other related tasks, using hand and power tools. It is critical for this position to perform all tasks in accordance with the safety rules and regulations, to protect individuals and the environment.
Position Accountabilities:
  • Finish Carpentry – Constructs frames, covers, and roof structures. Repairs or replaces door closers and panic bars. Hangs, tapes and textures drywall. Repairs furniture to include desks, tables, and bookcases. Installs or replaces floor and ceiling tiles. Repairs, replaces, and programs entry locks and performs specialized door repair. Replaces windows.
  • Painting – Prepares surfaces for painting. Uses brushes, rollers or spray guns to apply paints, varnish, enamel, or other protective or decorative finish to a variety of surfaces.
  • Plumbing – Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems, appliances, water supply and sewer lines, storm drains, and gas lines. Repairs, replaces, and pack faucets. Cuts and threads pipe fittings.
  • Electrical – Repairs or replaces electrical units for dishwashers, hot water heaters, refrigerators, garbage disposals, stoves, and other kitchen equipment or appliances, as required. Assists with the installation of interior and exterior wiring for new and altered facilities.
  • General – May do welding, soldering, caulking and brazing when necessary. Pours and forms concrete. Loads and unloads equipment, and drives maintenance or service vehicles. Maintains records and prepares meaningful reports as required. Suggests procedural improvements to supervisor as appropriate.
  • Other Duties – Performs other duties as assigned in support of the departmental and the university’s objectives. May be called to work evenings and weekends, and participates in scheduled On-Call Maintenance rotation.
Position Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Some college or trade school technical training.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Two or more years of journeyman level experience as a worker in one or more of the construction and building trades.
  • Valid and appropriate Driver’s License, an acceptable driving record, and to qualify for our insurability.
  • Ability to operate the variety of hand and power tools, and equipment utilized in the performance of duties in multiple trades.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, constructions, and building trades.
  • Knowledge of safety methods and procedures.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches and understand oral and written directions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize multiple tasks and complete work assignments accurately and on schedule, in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible approach to changing priorities and methods.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and interact professionally with a diverse team and customers in a changing environment.
  • Ability to lead crews or work independently.
  • Prioritize and identify needs and solve problems skillfully, using independent judgment.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work on weekends or in the evenings.
