Housekeeping/Laundry Assistant
Job Summary:
*Sign-On Bonus $1,000 for Part-Time, $2,500 for Full-Time Employees*
Handles cleaning of the building, including floors, walls, ceilings and equipment. Dusts, mops. Vacuums, removes trash. Washes linens, garments, drapes and other articles in a power washing machine.
The ability to learn proper setting for all washing and drying machines for all load types.
Places batches of similar articles in a washing machine and be able to set both washing machine and dryer at proper setting for each load type.
Adds soap solutions, and other chemicals, if necessary.
Transfers washed clothes to dryer. Other duties as assigned. Every other weekend and holiday rotation.
Job Knowledge:
Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Understands written instructions, including the use of potentially hazardous chemicals. Knowledge of residents and their needs in relation to their job functions. Also has knowledge of facility policies, procedures and rules. Has knowledge of safety procedures, including pouring and mixing of chemicals. Must have knowledge of equipment and procedures for washing linens of various degrees of soil and fabric types. Understands functions of various soaps, bleaches, softeners and other chemicals employed in washing and rinsing. Recognizes types of laundry and procedures for washing and drying to prevent damage to items. Knows basic cleaning techniques and procedures. Has a basic understanding of federal and state regulations as they relate to nursing homes.
Responsible For:
Keeping the building and equipment clean, sanitary, safe and odor free. Keeping information about resident, families, staff and the facility confidential. Washing laundry in a manner that will not damage either the machine or the contents, washing contaminated linen separately, and avoiding overloading the machines.
Practicing proper transfer of clean and dirty linens in faculty.
Practicing good safety measures when operating all machines and equipment, being aware of possible safety hazards regarding the residents and the facility. Responsible for safety conditions relating to other staff, residents, and visitors. Also responsible for keeping information regarding the facility, residents, families, and staff confidential.
Assisting to maintain safe conditions of the building, equipment and grounds and communicating any unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
Physical Demands:
Stands, walks, lifts (up to 50 pounds), stoops, pushes, pulls, mops, sweeps, carries equipment. Exposure to hazardous conditions, including wet floors. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and exposure to ill residents. Stands and walks in limited areas most of the working day. Turns, stoops, reach for, handles and lifts laundry weighing up to 50 pounds, in loading and unloading machines. Pushes and pulls levers and handles to open and close drum doors and valves. Exposure to hot, humid environment, hot water, and hazardous chemicals.
Special Demands:
Willingness to perform routine tasks on a continuous basis. Performs tasks with interruptions. Must have the ability to use judgment in keeping areas safe and hazard free. Stands and walks in limited areas most of the working day. Turns, stoops, reach for, handles and lifts laundry weighing up to 50 pounds, in loading and unloading machines. Pushes and pulls levers and handles to open and close drum doors and valves. Exposure to hot, humid environment, hot water, and hazardous chemicals.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
