Position Summary:
To plan, develop, implement and evaluate services across Park Nicollet Health Services, Regions Hospital and HPMG Clinics the Valley and Central Minnesota locations in collaboration with key hospital and medical group leaders. Scope of accountability includes all area with Cardiovascular Services including cardiovascular surgery, interventional cardiology, non-invasive cardiology, electrophysiology and general cardiology programs across Regions Hospital, Park Nicollet Health Services including Methodist Hospital, HPMG cardiology clinic departments, Valley outreach program, Central MN programs and contracted locations. This role actively partners with Regions Hospital inpatient services, Methodist Hospital inpatient services, the Valley Leadership Team, Hutchinson Health leadership team and Olivia leadership team and site leadership, as well as ambulatory and ancillary clinics and departments. This position collaboratively works with the designated Assistant Medical Directors, Medical Directors and Department Chairs and Department Heads to make strategic and operations decisions for the Cardiovascular Service Line.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare or a related field. Master’s degree strongly preferred. A minimum of 5 years of professional and administrative management experience and a minimum of 10 years experience in a health-related field.
Must have strong business acumen, planning and problem-solving abilities, financial management and superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/Licenses:
  • Clearly and concisely communicates in speaking and in writing. Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Is an effective group facilitator.
  • Knowledge of Federal/State/local regulations pertaining to health care management and health care financing and the implications for the Cardiovascular program. (e.g. Right-To-Know, workers’ compensation, Patient Bill of Rights, HCFA, Medicare).
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations established by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and other regulatory agencies/certifying organizations as applied to the Cardiovascular program.
  • Knowledge of health care financing as applied to the delivery of and reimbursement for Cardiovascular services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Park Nicollet, Regions and HPMG rules, policies, practices, union contracts, medical staff bylaws and information systems.
  • Knowledge of Park Nicollet, Regions and HealthPartners/ strategic goals and plans.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement restrictions, authorization policies/procedures and ability to interpret and implement contracts for programs.
  • Knowledge of the scope of services available locally, regionally and nationally for the patient with Cardiovascular needs.
  • Ability to think and plan creatively and futuristically.
  • Ability to decrease cost and increase revenue.
  • Ability to apply quality improvement techniques on a day-to-day basis

The System Director of Cardiovascular Services is accountable for the strategic, financial and operational success of Cardiovascular Services across the HealthPartners Care Group. Scope of accountability includes all areas within Cardiovascular Services including cardiovascular surgery, interventional cardiology, non-invasive cardiology, electrophysiology, and general cardiology programs across Regions Hospital, Park Nicollet Health Services including Methodist Hospital, HealthPartners clinics, Valley programs, Central Minnesota programs and contracted locations.
This role partners with Department Chairs, Medical Directors and leaders across the Care Group to make strategic and operational decisions across Cardiovascular Services. The System Director leads and engages teams in improving processes and procedures to increase patient experience, safety, quality, engagement, and efficiency. Position role models our Head Heart, Together culture, including Diversity and Inclusion programs and creates and maintains an environment supporting efficient and effective work teams with a high level of engagement. The work also involves creating an environment of collaboration within cardiovascular services, and across ambulatory and hospital-based teams.
