Title: STEM Summer Camp Instructor/Counselor

Reports to: Head of School

Position Type: Temporary Summer

Position Description:

Seeking applicants for the position of STEM Summer Camp Instructor/Counselor to serve as a part time summer camp counselor as a part of the Park Center. The Park Center provides educational services for students with Dyslexia and related learning differences. The Park Summer Camp serves students in grades 1-6. Camp will run for 4 consecutive weeks from 8AM to 12PM Monday through Friday starting July 8th 2024 and ending on August 2nd. This position involves the creation and implementation of interactive STEM-based camp activities for groups of about 10 students for approximately 1 hour per group.

Responsibilities will include the creation, planning and implementation of STEM based summer camp activities for students in grades 1-6. Each day will consist of three 1 hour classes in groups of approximately 10 students. In addition, camp counselors will provide student supervision during transitions and breaks. Classes may occur in classroom or outdoor settings. Examples of appropriate programming may include lessons and activities such as simple machines, group engineering projects, lego robotics, and coding. Counselors will be responsible for classroom management, lesson planning, parent communication, and collaboration with fellow summer camp faculty. Where appropriate, lessons may include academic reading and writing to support the activity-based multi-sensory learning.

Professional Qualifications

  • Relevant Oregon Education Licensure preferred. An out-of-state license may be considered
  • Advanced degree in Education, STEM based fields, special education, counseling or related fields preferred
  • Special Education endorsement/experience preferred
  • Experience delivering and facilitating classroom or camp-based educational learning
  • Experience with implementation of project-based and multisensory learning
  • Experience with student and classroom-based interventions and management
  • Experience with lesson plan creation and implementation
  • Experience with differentiating instruction and assessment
  • Understanding of dyslexia, dyscalculia, executive function, working memory, and processing speed and their impacts on learning

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide small group (10 student) STEM based instruction for 3, 1 hour class periods each day for students in grades 1-6
  • Collaborate with summer camp faculty to create cohesive lesson plans and activities that align with other aspects of the summer program
  • Create and execute STEM-based projects and multisensory activities, integrating literacy-based learning where appropriate
  • Supervise and support students during breaks and transitions.
  • Create written lesson plans and student learning documentation when appropriate
  • Communicate successes and challenges with fellow faculty and student parents/guardians
  • Attend camp faculty meetings with peers and site administrators

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
