Position Summary: 

Under the direct supervision of the Cottage Manager and the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Behavior Specialist is a member of the Cottage leadership team in a 24/7/365-day Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) environment. The Behavior Specialist ensures that each residents health and safety needs are being met, as well as implements and monitors resident’s active treatment, intervention programs, conduct data collection, summarize, and graph data and provide direct treatment and care to the residents of the Cottage. The Behavior Specialist provides training to staff in accordance with Parc Center for Disabilities philosophy and procedures within ICF/IID guidelines. The Behavior Specialist is also included in the managers’ rotating weekend on-call schedule. 

Working on site at Parc Center for Disabilities’ campus, you’ll find a dedicated team, unified in building an engaged, people-centered work environment. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Monthly Psychotropic Review/Behavior Review/Leadership duties: 

  • Attend monthly pre-psychotropic review meetings.
  • Compile, graph, and record data collected for the month.
  • File and maintain records after monthly meeting.
  • Attends and participates in standing committee meetings as requested.
  • Attends scheduled training and in-services and demonstrates the learned competencies.
  • Rotating on-call, one weekend a month.

Behavior Books/Data books: 

Organize the behavior section of the individual’s data book. Each resident receiving behavior services should have a copy of the following available for team members: 

  • Current data sheet
  • Current Behavior plan/protocols

Organize and maintain behavior book. Each resident receiving behavior services should have a copy of the following: 

  • Current behavior plan/assessment.
  • Signed informed consent for behavior.
  • Current Hab plan/addendums
  • Completed psychotropic medication reviews (for those on psychotropic medications OR completed monthly behavior reviews (for those not on psychotropic medications).
  • Purge files yearly and conduct book reviews at least once per quarter.

 Behavior Plan Implementation: 

  • Collaborate with BCBA on necessary info to be included in the behavior plan.
  • Once the behavior plan is completed and informed consent is obtained, distribute and file in all necessary locations.
  • Train the plan. If necessary, train the trainer and use a tracking sheet to stay organized. (i.e., train other supervisors who can train additional team members)
  • Refer to Instructions for Implementing Behavior Protocols on computer drive under Behavior Specialist/RBT responsibilities.
  • Train new team members when they begin floor observations and direct training on the groups.

Requirements

 Daily/Weekly Manager and Behavior Specialist Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals served in the program are being met.
  • Responsible for ensuring data collection is taking place and is accurate by monitoring and reviewing data books regularly.
  • Provide training on behavior plans/protocols and other required documentation (Purple cards, incident reports, reactive strategies, etc.) Maintain an Accurate Training record.
  • Model reinforcer programs and behavior protocol for team members daily.
  • Create and maintain daily schedules when required. Always ensure appropriate coverage for the groups/ratios.
  • Provide support to team members and clients when needed.
  • Assist and provide support when problem behavior arises. Re-train staff if implementation errors occur.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of facility evacuation and emergency procedures.
  • Communicates in a professional manner with team members, parents/guardians, therapists, and visitors.
  • Ensures team members have all the household supplies, hygiene supplies and clothing/shoes needed for the residents.
  • Identifies potentially hazardous conditions and completes maintenance request, notifies Cottage Manager immediately.
  • Completes supervisor checklist with other supervisors on duty as applicable.
  • Assists at mealtimes to ensure servings are correct, eating protocols are followed and assists residents as needed.
  • Reads and responds as necessary in the residents’ school communication book.
  • Shares pertinent information with nurses and fellow managers.

 Physical Demands: 

  • Observe and communicate effectively.
  • Physically manage residents’ behaviors which may include the use of physical blocking/manual restraint.
  • Must be able to safely lift 50 pounds from the floor to a waist high table when necessary.
  • Be physically, visually, and auditory aware of the cognitive, social and physical needs of residents.
  • Ability to perform Professional Crisis Management (PCM) to the highest level of certification.

 Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • A heart for people first and foremost.

  • Proficient in computer programs.
  • Able to use independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload in a fast-paced environment with real-world problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work with confidential materials, employee, and residents’ personal information.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication, employee interaction, decision-making, management, and organization.
  • Lead by example in action, principle, and tone. Be present and visible in the Cottage. Be willing to step in and ‘roll up your sleeves’ to support the direct care team members as needed.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Parc Center for Disabilities approved Professional Crisis management (PCM), CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Parc Center for Disabilities drivers’ license. 

 Education, Training and Experience Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree with experience in behavior management/skill training preferred.
  • Experience working with intellectually and developmentally disabled adults strongly preferred.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification highly preferred.
  • Valid Florida Drivers’ License with acceptable driving record.
