PLC/MTSS Specialist

1 Elementary Level Position & 1 Secondary Level Position available

Purpose Statement

Provides leadership to develop and guide all aspects of the PLC and MTSS framework for PVUSD. The specialist will work with the Project Momentum Coordinator to support the PLC and MTSS processes at the district and campus level. The specialist will build capacity amongst school and teacher leaders to facilitate and participate in highly effective collaborative teams. PLC specialists will coach collaborative teams to respond to the five PLC questions: 1) Where are we going? 2) Where are we now? 3) How do we move learning forward? 4) What did we learn today? 5) Who benefited and who did not benefit?

This job reports to the Coordinator of Project Momentum

Essential Functions

Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. administrators, school sites personnel) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs and open communication.

Facilitates the PLC process specifically leading teams in the process of building capacity on their campus in the following areas: 

  • Developing an effective and cohesive Site Intervention Team
  • Developing Collaborative Team Facilitators
  • Creating a shared mission, vision, and shared purpose
  • Creating collective commitments
  • Developing school tight/loose expectations
  • Creating or refining an effective archive system
  • Assessing the school’s readiness for PLC Work

Develops collaborative teams (Project Momentum schools) focusing teams on needs analysis from data and a process to respond. (determining essential standards, unwrapping standards, creating common formative assessments, analyzing data, responding to data, developing strategies for tier I and tier II instruction)

Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. weekly department/grade level meetings, monthly department meetings, the MTSS work team, inter and intra district committees, site team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to carry out their administrative responsibilities and enriching the district systems of PLC/MTSS.

Facilitates professional development for the following: Model PLC teacher leader trainings, monthly interdepartmental collaborations, PLC Summit, Teacher Clarity, etc.

Collaborates with teams to build a shared knowledge about data analysis and how to identify students who have met proficiency and develop strategies or extensions that advance learning opportunities.

Provides site support on a consistent basis for the purpose of enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved, specifically with using the PLC process to provide a multi-tier system of support.

Provides leadership and oversight in creating the conditions for PVUSD to effectively collaborate within a PLC and MTSS framework.

Partners with multiple departments to streamline and create processes to support schools in the effective implementation of the PLC and MTSS process 

Supports the values and institutional goals as defined in PVUSD’s Strategic Plan 

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; facilitating meetings; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; concepts of grammar and punctuation; practices of personnel administration; stages of child development; issues relating to at-risk youths; age appropriate activities; methods of instruction and training.

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; managing multiple projects; adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; setting priorities; building collaborative relationships; and working with frequent interruptions.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions; demonstrate high regard for confidential and sensitive information; . There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Education: Masters degree in job-related area.
