Testing and Data Specialist

Location: Language Acquisition Department

12 months, 8 hours/day

Grade 20, $18.63/hour

Non-Interim Position

Start Date: 7/3/2023

Purpose Statement

The job of LA Testing and Data Specialist is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting the district in managing the facilitation of identifying, screening, testing and placement of limited English proficient students; administering tests; training staff in test administration; coordination of state testing and collection of data.

This job reports to Director of Language Acquisition

Essential Functions

Provides technical and resource assistance to ELL testing clerks, record secretaries and registrars at school sites for the purpose of providing information, guidance and training on testing protocols, reporting procedures, and the use of the Pearson Access Next and AZELLA Training Management Systems.

Attends required school, district meetings and AZELLA training for the purpose of conveying an/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

Completes documents related to the scoring and reporting of language proficiency test results for the purpose of providing accurate documentation in compliance with current regulations.

Coordinates testing of individual students and/or groups of students in English for the purpose of using the district language proficiency assessments at all schools within the district (travel to all schools required).

Prepares reviews and keeps current student data files for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district, state and federal regulations.

Responds to a variety of inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction about students from school district personnel and other school districts to provide the best service.

Administers and scores assessments, verifies data and data entry for the purpose of providing information to other staff to determine appropriate student placement and/or referral.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: translating written documents; operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation in both English and Second Language preferred; age appropriate activities.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job- related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups including those with limited English proficiency; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Experience: Job related experience is required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
