Purpose Statement

The District Tiered Support Specialist is charged with improving classroom instructional practices in ways that enhance students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development. The District Tiered Support Specialist provides leadership and direction at the district level, working to support schools as they design, implement, coordinate and evaluate a comprehensive behavior support program. 

This job reports to the Director of Student Services - Elementary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support implementation of Tier I Culturally Responsive - Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports within assigned schools. This includes the use of data to inform prevention and intervention practices.
  • Work with school level teams and staff to implement and utilize universal screening protocols to identify students with delays in social, emotional or behavioral functioning. 
  • Consult with School Tiered Support Specialists and school-based Leadership Teams to identify priorities, develop action plans, and monitor progress at schools as assigned.
  • Work with school level teams and staff to implement evidence-based interventions to affect positive social, emotional, behavioral, changes in students.
  • Assist teams in analyzing school-wide and student-specific data to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of building plans and to develop positive behavior support plans for individual students.
  • Provide coaching to school tiered support staff to support the implementation and fidelity of function-based behavior plans.
  • Conduct workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing the behavior proficiency of staff.
  • Provide supervision to tiered support specialists and assist with evaluations.

Required:

  • ADE School Psychologist Certification
  • Ability to analyze behavior, consult and collaborate with adults, and develop positive relationships with students.
  • Possess skills in data collection and analysis, development of effective intervention plans, and implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports. 
  • Evidence of experience and participation in professional development that supports evidence-based strategies to promote social-emotional functioning and mental health.
  • Ability to assist school teams in the implementation of school-wide prevention programs and practices that promote positive school environments

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree from NASP-Approved School Psychology program preferred
  • Experience in a public school system
  • Two or more years of experience working with students with challenging behaviors
  • Current in non-violent crisis response & intervention certification
  • Comprehensive knowledge, understanding of and commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports 
  • Strong rapport with children, young people, and adults

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: ADE School Psychologist Certification, Teacher license and/or teacher experience beneficial. 

EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of developing and/or implementing functional-based assessments and child and adolescent development, experience working within schools, direct teacher support and understanding of special education law preferable. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general written material, professional journals, and state and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, behavior plans, behavior goals, correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information regarding evaluations. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of educators, parents or general public.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a job-related area.
