Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc. is Hiring an Instrument Operator - Land Surveying Near Plano, TX

Overview

This position is a member of a three person crew that assists in the completion of land surveying projects as directed by the Survey Department Manager and Party Chief.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload surveying supplies and equipment in trucks
  • Inspect and test survey equipment
  • Operate surveying instruments such as data collectors, Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, levels, and GPS-RTK Receivers
  • Conduct field work to ascertain the location of natural features and man-made structures on land surfaces
  • Survey land surfaces to collect precise measurements and locations of lines, angles, points, areas, elevations, and land boundaries.
  • Assist surveyors in obtaining and recording measurements and descriptive data relevant to land surfaces
  • Conduct construction staking for layout of streets, drains, lots, and utilities
  • Compile notes, sketches, and records of survey data obtained, and work performed
  • Provides guidance and direction to the Rodmen
  • Performs additional survey tasks as per the direction of the Party Chief

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certification
  • 2-4 years experience
  • Ability to operate and obtain land survey data using surveying instruments
  • Ability to do minor field calculations, analyze spatial data, technical data, and designs
  • Can run crew for a short time in Party Chief’s absence
  • Possess working knowledge of land surveying procedures
  • Ability to handle basic issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher level staff
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees in the organization, both verbally and written
  • Ability to follow direction from supervisor as well as other members of engineering staff and management team
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and terrains on a consistent basis and for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and carry survey equipment up to 35 lbs. on a consistent basis
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Must be dependable and reliable
