The Kennel Technicican is responsible for the day-to-day care of shelter animals. This position reports to the Kennel Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*Provide a clean and sanitary environment for the animals by disinfecting cages, floors, bedding, dishes and litter pans.
*Feed, water and groom animals.
*Assist in administering routine medical treatments and inoculations.
*Inspect animals for diseases and other physical problems and report findings to Kennel Supervisor.
*Make recommendations regarding disposition of animals to the Kennel Supervisor.
*Repair animal housing or address the issue with Kennel Supervisor.
*Requisition and maintain an adequate inventory of kennel supplies and materials.
*Complete necessary paperwork for reports and for compliance with all state and local ordinances relating to animals.
*Ensure all animals are socialized and exercised daily to increase their potential for adoption.
*Handle animals in a humane manner according to established safety policies and procedures.
*Ensure quality customer service to patrons who visit or call the shelter.
*Foster teamwork and aid to staff and volunteers.
Qualifications:
*High school diploma or GED equivalent.
*Minimum of three months experience in similar capacity in an animal shelter, veterinary hospital or clinic preferred.
*Valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment: There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors; and animal noises, dander, odors, urine and feces.
