Panama City Trilingual School is Hiring an On-Call Substitute Teacher Near Panama, FL

Definition

Substitute teachers replace regular teachers for a short period of time (e.g., a week or a month) or for the entire academic year. They make sure that the lesson plan is followed, and the classroom runs smoothly in the absence of the regular teacher.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

✓ Adhere to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.

✓ Follow procedures and achieve lesson goals.

✓ Assign and explain homework.

✓ Oversee students outside of the classroom including in the hallways and cafeteria.

✓ Always comply with all school regulations and policies.

✓ Take attendance and document daily notes.

✓ Ensure classroom and work is kept clean and orderly.

✓ Oversee the normal classroom rhythms and activities.

✓ Compile a report for the teacher for when he/she returns.

✓ Study and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher or the principal.

✓ Apply various teaching techniques (including interactive methods and game-based activities) to encourage participation and facilitate learning.

✓ Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises, and additional resources.

✓ Assign classwork and homework.

✓ Take attendance according to school policy.

✓ Grade students’ assignments and provide constructive feedback.

✓ Keep track of students’ progress and write down information that’ll be useful to the regular teacher.

✓ Report any incidents regarding students’ behavior in and out of the classroom.

✓ Maintain a tidy and safe class environment for students.

✓ Supervise school equipment and ensure students use it properly.

Job Qualifications/Requirements (at the time of application)

Skills:

✓ Must be detail oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.

✓ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to:

✓ Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions.

✓ Ability to communicate in both oral and written means.

✓ Ability to effectively present information and respond to students, parents, and staff.

✓ Ability to handle stressful situations.

✓ Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters.

✓ Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

✓ Ability to be professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor.

Education Required:

✓ High School Diploma or equivalent.

✓ Bachelor’s degree in teaching is preferred.

✓ Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Experience Required:

✓ A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role is preferred.

License(s) Required:

✓ Certificate in teaching or substitute teaching is preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands (Must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations):

✓ While performing the duties of this job, the independent contractor regularly works inside. The independent contractor is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

✓ The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, depending on the nature of the assigned course.

✓ While performing the duties of this job, the independent contractor is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The independent contractor is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.

✓ While performing the duties of this job, the independent contractor rarely performs routine work.

The independent contractor frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The independent contractor frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity.

✓ The independent contractor is frequently involved in social interactions which require excellent oral and written communications.
