JOB
The Lift Station Operator I performs routine inspections and mechanical work in the operation and preventative maintenance of lift stations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Foreman. This position is also considered an emergency essential position. An emergency essential position is required to perform a variety of functions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse weather events (hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, flood, winter storm, ice storm, etc.) or other contingencies (natural or manmade). ESSENTIAL DUTIES To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This includes the supervisory duties of the position and all technical tasks normally performed by the assigned Warehouse workers. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Performs daily lift station checks of equipment, including pumps, related controls, generators and grounds.Performs general cleaning of lift stations; cleans wet wells, paints when needed, cleans pump room, pumps out pump rooms when needed, cuts grass and weeds around stations, waters and prunes shrubs and trees. Assists in regular preventative maintenance program by servicing lift stations and equipment. Makes visual inspections of stations to determine if they are in a proper state of repair. Assists in routine maintenance work on mechanical apparatus such as pumps, motors compressors and controllers. Operates and maintains emergency generators. Cleans and maintains float control systems and transducers. Keeps accurate records necessary to the specific assignment. Performs related work as requiredPerforms related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in mechanical repair and maintenance work. Knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical maintenance and repair work. Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment and to detect apparatus malfunctions. Ability to prepare and maintain complete and accurate records.Ability to read and understand gauges and meters.Ability to operate medium sized vehicles, tow and back trailers.Ability to work around moving equipment and engines, in confined areas.Ability to use equipment used for lawn maintenance such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers and pressurized sprayers. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with superiors, peers, subordinates and the public.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
High school diploma (or equivalency) is required. Valid driver's license required. Must possess and maintain the appropriate Florida Commercial driver license (CDL) or be able to obtain within a reasonable amount of time and/or at the direction and approval of the Lift Stations Superintendent. One year experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the type of equipment to be operated. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Risk/Safety Conditions: This position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (i.e., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment). Both outdoor and indoor year-round work as related to the maintenance, repair, and construction of City buildings and structures. Work Environment: Work requires moderate to extreme exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., inclement weather, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, strong odors, or dust).
